I've always gone to BlackJackInfo.com for their BS Engine. This morning I found a new engine run with BJC Chart maker.
Here is the question
6 Deck : S17 Hit : DOA : DAS : no Surrender: Hole Card Normal
BJInfo Engine has A8 vs 6 as a STAND
BJC Chart Maker has A8 vs. 6 as a Double
any opinions?
I've watched plenty of people mess this play up because the soft doubling charts seem hard to remember. The usual mistake is mixing up soft 18 with A-8. The hi-lo index for this play is +2, meaning you should double down when the hi-lo true count is +2 or higher.
If you think people get mad when you double a soft 18, try doubling a soft 19.

Sorry but the EM-index for A8v6 is +1 (S17, Hi-Lo) unless you are talking about risk aversion.

H 17: Always stand

Not a lot of difference between hitting and doubling.
I wonder what Don S. has to say (his book is at home).

which i play about half my time. My RA index for h17 6 decker is 0, which means it may even be lower for a double or single decker.
BTW, i usually get a worse reaction for doubling A7 than A8. the ploppies at seem to think it is just not cool, or plain dumb to double A7. but when i quickly toss out the double bet for the A8 they think i am "cool", or "brave", or a "true gambler".
In SD, double even with S17.
Also, double as CBS, if you are not goign to learn a lot of indexes.
I think A8 v 5,6 is one of the important Cac-22!
What I find strange is that basic strategy tells you
to double on A,8 vs 6 in both single deck and H17 multi-deck, but when the dealer is showing a 2 you
should double only with A,6 in single deck and only
with A,7 in H17 multi-deck. Still trying to figure that one out...

Still, the best play to clear the table is to split those 10's. ;-)

A7 is stronger double than A6.
in single decks, EOR makes the A6 stronger in this case cause 6 gone.
also, a 17 is weaker in h17 game.
just a guess i pulled out my *ss right now. anyways, it's not important in my opinion. just make the right play at the table.
A8 vs 6 basic is : Always Stand EXCEPT: Double if dealer H17 and also Double in one deck. Period.
Who needed them anyway!
I always double A8 vs. a 6. Boy do people get pissed, but that definitley ain't gonna stop me. I love it when i clear a table with that one cause the dealer winds up getting 21....LOL!!!!!
