Because email addresses arn't shown, would it be possible to have a mail box where posters can leave messages for a specific poster and still remain anonymous. My thinking is that many posters don't want unsolicited mail and this would allow anyone to ignore or accept messages received. Example: I might want to contact a specific poster with gambling information too sensitive for a open forum while at the same time not exposing either posters email address. This would allow either poster to break off contact without compromizing their email address.

Maybe some other posters have simular ideas.

but how hard is it to set up a fictious Hotmail or Yahoo account and just use it on this forum. I know I probably have half a dozen of each. For example I have a different email address for my online biz than I do my personal email address.

Whether a specific poster receives email messages is up to that poster. Email addresses are shown or not, depending on the preference of the poster. We are not going to force a poster to accept email.

The ability to send someone an email message without the message being traceable back to the sender is something that could easily be abused. Adding that capability to BJ21 would result in a lot more insults than "gambling information too sensitive for a open forum" being sent anonymously.

Even though you may want to contact another poster privately, doesn't he/she have the right to not be contacted by you if they don't wish to?
Maybe they only want to give an email address to a few people and just deal with all others via this page.
Stanford, I also wonder if implementing this idea would maybe lower the number of postings.
I'm not trying to be a killjoy here, just trying to look at the total picture.

Anyone may leave an e-mail address. Every post I make carries an e-mail address.

Of course, this means that I receive a lot of e-mail, which takes time to sort and answer. I don't mind.

Some people might. It would seem logical that people who do not post an e-mail address do not wish to receive e-mail, and I respect that.

IIRC, earlier versions of the software running this message board had a provision for a "blind" e-mail address. I assume it was dropped for lack of use.

Then switch back, nobody will know either of your mail addresses.

It takes 2 minutes to set up another email.
