AOII Optimal Bet Spread?

Blackjack For Blood is pretty vague on the optimal bet spread and it is one of the most important parts of playing. First off, I would like to know if anyone has recommendations for playing a 1:4 spread against a sd, h17, das. I plan on using the AOII counting system with an ace side count. I originally, from reading the book, thought that I should just bet 1 unit at +1, 2 at +2, etc... but after reading through the posts I have found that I may want to change this up.

Secondly, I would like to learn how to obtain this optimal count, aside from buying software to just tell me a number. I understand that I need to first see how much of an advantage each point count gives me and then use this with the original house advantage to determine how I should bet. I feel like there is much more to this and any help would be appreciated.

after BJ for Blood was written. Carlson's betting plans are very conservative and are based on playing exceedingly great games. (like 1-2 spread on single deck). These games are hard to find or extinct.

For single deck rules are not as important as the number of rounds you'll be getting to the various numbers of possible players. Rule of 5 needs great rules for you to have any chance, Rule of 6 needs typical rules, and for 7 or 8 rounds heads up you can beat almost any rule set. h17 das are great rules for single deck as you'll be playing even off the top with the house. If you can get Rule of 6 you can spread 1-3 and beat the game handily. Spreading 1-4 you can bet 2 at neutral counts and either parlay up to 4 or down to 1. I'd play 2 at -3 to +3 and go to 4 units at +4 (AO2) and down to 1 unit at -4. If you're only getting rule of 5 you'll need to be be more conservative with your neutral count bets.
