Advantage Play-At the Airport

Postive EV at the airport. Last weekend the flight was overbooked. Gave up my seat, they gave a $300 voucher. Went to get on the next flight, same thing, overbooked. Only this time I got a $400 voucher.
Double bumped. Not a lot of fun sitting in a airport for 4 1/2 hours, but just kept telling myself, this is not that bad, for $155 an hour.
Advantage play is where you find it.......

..strategies as well - significantly increasing the frequency of occurrance. G

Several years ago I had a job that required frequent flying. I would purposely book the flights that I knew were most likely to be overbooked, then volunteer to be bumped.

Sometimes it was even possible to haggle over the amount of the voucher, especially if an additional night was involved. Of course, in those situations a hotel room and a meal voucher were also included.

Also, back then it was quite easy to get "bumped" up to first class on the flight that you eventually ended up taking.
