Acceptable ROR ?

I have just finished reading the four books i have bought on the topic of counting blackjack, after having analyzed the availability of decent shoe games in the area, i would like to know which game is better in ypour opinions ( i know everyhting is different for each individual)...
1 Hr. Drive = 6D,H17,75% pen.,DAS game ( house edge of top is around .64 HA ) however Blackjack awards a coupon of some sort for the cafe.

2.5 Hr. Drive = 6d,S17,75%pen.,DAS game (house edge is around .44)

i have a question regarding the spread i am going to use, obviously to begin with i am going to keep my minimum bet to $2, then at +1 move to $8, +2 $16 and plus 3 $24. I have calculated that for a spread of thise size 125 units with a 5% ROR would be $3000. I would like to know if people think it is acceptable to have a higher ROR if funds dictate max outlay for my venture would be $2500?

I would probably not increase my bet until TC=+2 in that game. At +1 you really don't have any edge since each TC increment increases your edge roughly .5...

with a $2 unit, and optimal betting, your ROR is 15% which is not excessively high.

Optimal bet ramp according to CVCX would be:

$2 for TC <= 0
$3 for TC = 1
$10 for TC = 2
$24 for TC >= 3

Your hourly win rate will be about $3.00 at the optimal bet ramp. Using your ramp supplied above your win rate is about $3.40 per hour, but your ROR climbs to 19%.

Note that those are for the H17 game. For the S17 game, your ROR drops to 9% for the optimal ramp, 11% for your betting ramp, while your hourly win rate is $4.00 optimal, or $4.50 with your custom bet ramp. Optimal for this game is

2 at TC <= 0, 5 at TC=1, 10 at TC=2, 24 at TC>=3

As you can see, if you don't have CVCX you ought to get it. It can answer all of these questions for any set of circumstances you happen upon in a casino.

Thankyou very much in clarifying my suspicion that the actual +1 TC in the hit 17 game would be a bad increase! However the advantage to the casino would be .64 - .50 which reduces edge to 0.14% (for all intents and purposes a coin flip). Over time betting more here would be an advantage correct?

When the casino has any sort of edge, you are going to lose that edge * the amount of your bet, each time you make it, on average. In that game, it would seem that the house edge is just barely overcome by a TC of +1, to make the bet start to ramp at +1 rather than +2.

were I playing, I'd wong it myself, and leave at zero, and jump in at +3 or so...

As far as "great response" goes, thanks, but if you are going to be a serious AP, you ought to consider buying CVCX. I take it on all my trips on my little Sony Vaio, and when I see a game, the penetration, I can enter those to find out whether it is worthwhile or not and if so, what kind of bet ramp I ought to be using to maximize win rate/minimize ROR. CVCX is also well worth the money, and Norm often has some sort of "package" deal where you get both for less than the sum of the individual prices. You will lose more than that in a session playing BJ, so it is well worth it...

Nobody else can really tell you what your risk tolerance should be. But I'll give you my opinion. If in 3 or 4 months time you can easily raise another $3000 bankroll then I would play to a higher ROR. But if this is money that it would take you years to raise again then 5% may be right, or may even be high. The correct risk level to your bank usually relates to how much money this means to you and how easily you could replace it if lost. For professional players their bankroll is generally greater than their annual income so great care must be taken as there is no mechanism to replace it if lost.
