A very weak card steering

In some casinos you can see the last card of the shoe when the dealer offers it to some player to cut. You may also see a second card: the last card of the shoe AFTER the player has cut it.

So you have knowledge of 2 cards and where they are placed. I mean if they are going to be dealt or not. Could this give you a marginal advantage?

Because some times you could see that 2 small cards are not going to be dealt. Or 2 high cards are going to be dealt.
How should you adjust your RC on the top of the shoe?

For example, if 2 small cards are not going to be dealt(or 2 high cards are going to be dealt) should you start with a +2 RC?

You include in your count every card you see that has been dealt - even if "dealt" means put out of circulation. So if a 6-deck shoe starts and you know that a 6 has been

- cut out of play
- missing from the deck
- burned
- etc

you start your HiLo RC with +1.

What you are doing is adjusting the make up of the remaining cards to be dealt: since these cards are short one 6, your count should be accordingly adjusted, if you want to be accurate. (Penetration is also adjusted accordingly. If you happen to see your 5 burned cards, for example, you have better pen by 5 cards. After about 47 more cards are dealt, 1 full deck is gone, for you.)

You're simply talking about including seen cards in a count even though they haven't been dealt. Card steering is directing a known card to a particular player or the dealer by precise cutting and play.

For instance, if the bottom card is seen as the cut is offered and it is an ace or ten, the steerer would cut and play so that the ten would be his card in a known later round. He would bet much larger at the beginning of that round. If the known card was a 5 or 6, he would steer it to become the dealer hole card in a later round, and would bet huge for that round and could also adjust his play in accordance with his hole card knowlege.

It is obviously very difficult to master the necessary precision for this play, but possible.

I know the term I used does not fit (I didn't know how to say it-maybe seeing as Cyrus said) but see it this way:
If the last card is a low card and if YOU are cutting then you should cut, so that the low card will not be dealt. It is a very weak form of card steering don't you think? :-)
Of course if you shuffle track this method is worthless. Perhaps, it's the very next step after counting! :-)

I know what card steering is, I read a John May's article and really astonished me! Really brilliant trick! I practised a little but I was cutting +-2 cards. Maybe in the future I dedicate more time.

If the 2 cards you could see are high, and they are going to be dealt what should you do?

My first thought was to start with a +2 RC.
But my second thought was to use the NRS formulas. For the above example (4/6 pen) gave me N=6 and r=-0,5.
So, I should start with a (-2)*(-0,5)=+1 RC?

If you cut to within two cards consistently in a casino you can go for the chandeliers! Even a margin of error of six cards can give you a very significant extra edge.
I emphasize this a bit more in GTEAB but the message does not seem to have got across. Perfect cutting isn't required.
For ultra-conservatives its worth pointing out that if you are trying to steer the bottom card to the dealer
then it should be obvious if you've succeded or not. Don't raise your bet and only make hole-card playing departures when you know you have been successful-that way you cannot lose any EV.

Unfortunatelly, I do not have the book but I have realised myself that perfect cutting is not required. But I quess there could be a whole strategy behind it.

For example, if the bottom card is a ten or ace and you cannot cut perfectly then you are not sure if this card is going to be dealt in the big money spot or in the neighbouring spots. So,I think, you should make some sort of scale betting in the neighbouring spots. And this scale betting should be a function of 1. the card 2. the accuracy you can achieve

Maybe,you have already included that stuff in your book.Do you? If so, then I should rush! :-)
The trouble is that it will take over a month to arrive here in my country! :-(
