200 Proof Hi-Lo Questions

I am new to Hi-Lo counting. I am learning from the book Bootlegger's 200 Proof Blackjack. I have the following questions that I don't find the text:

1. How should I compute the True Count in a 2 Deck game? Should I divide by remaining quarter decks like Single Deck or remaining whole decks like a 6 Deck Shoe?

2.In a 6 Deck Shoe game would it be better to divide by remaing decks to the nearest half deck or should I just stick with dividing by the remaining whole decks as presented in the text.

1. How should I compute the True Count in a 2 Deck game?

What I do is look at the discard pile, determine how much is left undealt, invert the fraction and multiply. This sounds much more difficult than it is, and once you do it enough times you just "know" the TC in each situation.

Example: 2/3rds of a deck in the discard pile; so 4/3rds must remain undealt; so multiply the RC by 3/4 to get the TC.

Example: 2/5ths of a deck in the discard pile; so 8/5ths must remain; so multiply RC by 5/8.

These multiplications are not difficult because you want to use a truncated TC anyway. +3 * 3/4 truncates to +2; +2 * 5/8 truncates to +1.

2.In a 6 Deck Shoe game would it be better to divide by remaing decks to the nearest half deck or should I just stick with dividing by the remaining whole decks as presented in the text.

Not better -- stick with whole decks.

For 6d, I go with "oldcoot" and use single deck resolution. Nothing wrong with going to 1/2 decks but the math becomes a bit tricker. For example, after 1.5 decks have been played, you have 4.5 decks left. You can either use 9/2 (4.5) or 5. I use 5. A little conservative, a little easier than multiplying by 2/9...

For DD, which is mostly what I play, I use 1/2 deck resolution for the first deck. If I am lucky enough to find a game that goes beyond 50% (which I really would not play if it didn't) I switch to 1/4 deck resolution for the second (last) deck. Since this is also what I use in SD games, (1/4 deck resolution) this will become habit after you play enough and you will automatically "switch" at the right point without giving it any thought. Then you just remember to multiply by 4/3 (3/4 deck left), 2 (1/2 deck left), and if you are _really_ fortunate, multiply by 4 (1/4 deck left). :)
