Why is BJ misc at the bottom of the list?

Early on we listed the boards alphabetically. When we added the boards for geographical locations, we got away from alphabetical because it seemed more natural to keep all the geographical boards together. Except for that, there is no logic to the order of the boards in the left frame.

We had the BJ Misc first for a long time, but for no particular reason. One negative with having it first is it sometimes received posts that were better fits for other boards. Perhaps by listing the boards with more specific content ahead of BJ Misc, fewer messages will be posted to an inappropriate board.

When one lists things (any kind of things), one usually starts with the specific and ends with the miscellaneous.

Ask any lawyer.

I hadn't really thought about it much, but the present order has a certain logic to it.

Having the beginner page first is a good idea. After all, this is where people start. Many questions were popping up on bjmisc that belonged on the beginner page.

A beginner will need books and software, so it is logical to put this next.

Las Vegas is, of course, the blackjack capital of the world, and these pages have always been very popular. So, it makes sense to have the LV related pages next, and that sort of naturally flows into the other geography-specific sites.

Then we have the BJ misc page, and conclude with the three pages that have less to do with blackjack, at least in the conventional, card-counting sense.

I like it.

One might even call them...the Grand Exalted Triumvirate...of BJ21.

But miscellany, mayhem and madness is/are THE SOURCE of metaphysics, logic, and law...all branches of knowing which entomb the very thing they once wrestled with ( in their spry youth ) but which each now sits upon like some constipated and jumpy old maid whose toilet contains a black viper conjured from the nest of her own self loathing; a secret and " imaginary " disgust , indeed, which compels her to wash her hands for hours on end--when she is not fretfully tending to the object of her constant attention ie., her toilet--and the snake that she dreads at its bottom--the insideous black beast called...Miscellaneous Vituperuptous.

Yes, at the bottom of every fine order coils the hoary beast. It has always been thus my friends. So look now to your left, do you see how its angry and baited tail doth wiggle deep down within the fine order we have arrived at in the precise hour of this fine " Blackjack " day?

...you want it up at the top again. And in the process you claim that I'm nitpicking, like I would lose more than one second's sleep either way.

To see who's the nitpicker here compare my above 2-line post with yours, which sees "black beasts of logic" at work! A kid at heart, as always.

Such impertinence! I made no such claims....Doooooood!....and, as always, I was merely kidding---" kid...( um ) at ( um )...heart. "

I ( um ) do believe, however, that BJ misc was subjugated not in service of the messy, exploratory, and oft times inconvenient child, in favor of the nitpicking ( your word ) and overstuffed adult. Am I that far off here, fellow traveler? Don't think so. But perhaps you, oh light hearted one, believe that the word subjugated is much too heavy a word to use here, no?

I happen to believe that the miscellaneous chaos of the Misc page is a very good thing, a REAL THING for " the player " in us all to partake of, even if it does get out of hand at times ( like fairyland dust, eh Clarke? ) Also, I don't believe the decision to alter its placement was a casual one, regardless of whether you or I lose any sleep over it. But I, for one, will not floss the gloss concerning matters of this ilk--as trivial as they may seem--if I see it's a fake I'm a'goin to call it a fake, as to me, that is always the unleavened issue.

So, what's the big beef, kiddo? I was merely passing a light wind while the ministry ordained preached the heavy...ahem...truth. If my antics caused anything more than a few nervous twitters amongst my naughty pew mates, then I humbly beg your apologies as one of the head altar boys. Okay?

The other regional boards post more about specific conditions and casino mishaps'.

I'm willing to experiment a bit and see what works best. Perhaps putting Beginner BJ, Books/Software, BJ Misc, Games Not BJ, and Progressions ahead of all the regional boards makes more sense than the way we have the arranged at the time I am posting this message.

List "beginner BJ" first as a logical starting point, and so beginners are less likely to post on the wrong board.

"BJ misc" next, as it is a general board for more advanced players. That'll make it the logical forum to make a BJ methodology-related post. As it stands, many general BJ questions/comments are incorrectly posted in "Vegas BJ."

Then "Vegas BJ" and "Vegas Life" as LV is the BJ mecca.

Then the other regions roughly from west to east: "CA", "West", "Midwest", "South", "East", "Outside USA."

Then "Net casinos", as it can be construed as a virtual region. Note: For purposes of uniformity, "net" should not be capitalized, or all forums, such as "books/software," should start with a capital. Sorry if I'm being a nitpick, but I'm a perfectionist.

Then "books/software" as a reference for posters who want to further their study. Contrary to Parker's reasoning (no offense!), all players, not just beginners, are interested in such materials.

Finally, put "progressions" exactly where it belongs--last!

"BJ main discussion page" may have a nice ring to it, but it won't fit neatly in the border. "BJ main," as you suggested, might be better. How about starting with "beginner BJ" so that beginners will (hopefully) be inclined to post there and not clog up the other forums. Then have a forum entitled "advanced BJ" which for be for any "non-beginners." It also might make sense to have an "intermediate BJ" forum between the two. See my post entitled "A logical approach to listing the Free Forums" for further details on my approach.

Maverick got me thinking with his above post, and I agree that "BJ misc" should be replaced by something like "BJ advanced." "BJ misc" is too general and results in a muddled forum. With "BJ advanced," you know what you are going to get (hopefully!): posts about BJ methodology that are both "non-beginner" and "non-region-specific."

There is never a completely right way, a so called " logically " correct way, as logic too is a choice, a belief, based upon an already particular way of looking at the world. Never assume that logic is the best way for all, when infact, logic is only the best way for some.

I believe that all things begin from discord and end up in accord.
