I dont frequent Boyd Casinos much anymore because the games they offer are not that congruent with my overall game plan. Several years ago that was not the case and I used to play at their casinos quite a bit. One thing I learned about them at the time is that they are the slimiest of the slimy. I got the impression theyd rather lie than tell the truth even if the truth benefited them. One example is call ahead room comps. Twice I called ahead and received the assurance from a casino host that everything would be taken care of. Both times I arrived at the front desk and was told they had no notice of my impending arrival. Only after putting me through the ringer and trying to act like they were doing me a huge favor they consented. This put me on notice to be aware of their dishonesty in the future and they rarely disappointed. In addition, Ive found their staff to be the rudest in the business.
A friend recently relayed this story to me and asked me to pass it along he was so upset by the lying he was subjected to. He just recently moved to Las Vegas and after playing at Sams Town one day(he is not an advantage player) he filled out a credit application. It took them over 2 weeks and several phone calls to finally give their approval. They say they were waiting to hear back from his bank. I wont say the exact amount, but it was for more than $1,000 and less than $3,000. A couple of days later he goes in to play and asks for a portion of his credit limit in the form of a marker. The pit checks and tells him he doesnt have marker privileges. He then checks with the cashier cage and asked them what the problem is. They tell him that they approved check cashing privileges and will monitor his play to decide whether to upgrade to marker status. Also, they tell him that his check cashing limit is of what they told him over the phone. Thats the Sams Town I remember, telling two lies at once. Several weeks later he calls ahead to see how long the wait is before he can cash another check up to his limit. They tell him 7 days and he comes in the next day to be told that their policy is you must wait 10 days. Starting to get the picture now about their modus operandi he protests, but they rudely wave him off. It was after this latest incident that he had his first conversation with me regarding them. I informed him that the lies will persist if he continues to deal with Boyd Casinos. He waits a few days and goes in again(dont ask me why, other than I guess its become comical at this point watching them lie). They pull up his account and tell him they cant cash his check because their policy is to wait 14 days and its only been 13 since he wrote his last check there. They tell him he can come in the next day and they will cash his check. He hasnt been back.
One of these days Boyd Casinos is going to end up like Bill Clinton and will find themselves with nobody left to lie to(with apologies to Christopher Hitchens).
