Anyone know what's going on at the site of the old Sahara? Last I read sometime ago there were plans to build a new hotel/casino.
is due to open later this year. It was scheduled for spring but has been pushed back, I believe to fall 2014. From the outside, it looks to be nearly done.
The project has been similar to the Downtown Grand (former Lady Luck) which opened late last year and the recently opened Cromwell (formerly Bill's gambling hall and Barbary coast before that), in that rather than completely knock down the old building and start from scratch, these properties where stripped down to the steel skeletons and rebuilt on the same foot print.

will be the 'Cadillac of anything. lol But I would like to see some revitalization of the northern strip and hopefully a SLS that is an upgrade from Sahara's final declining years, along with Resort World Las Vegas, can play a part in that. I had hoped the big blue building was going to be a major part of North Strip improvement, but obviously not. I still don't get THAT one. I don't get how a project dies when it is 90% completed. Makes no sense to me and frankly it saddens me, every time I look at that big blue monster, rotting away.
