I am playing a ENHC game where surrender is allowed. I assume that when using the strategy engine this is considered to be early surrender. The odds are not calculated differently for casinos that allow surrender against an ace, which some casinos allow and others don't. Does anyone know how much advantage is given by being allowed to surrender to an ace??
Early Surrender against an Ace is very valuable. Most of the gain for ES comes against the Ace up According to Peter Griffin ToBJ (page 123), it is worth about 0.47% in an H17 game, and 0.38% in an S17 game.
By comparison, LS vs Ace only adds 0.24% in an LS.
I would presume that surrender in your EHNC is implemented as an Early Surrender, where you can in fact surrender to a BJ. However, I have played in no-hole card situations where a Surrender vs Ace/Ten is not accepted immediately. Rather the bet is held in a type of �escrow�, and not returned to the player until it is determined that the dealer does not BJ.
Jmcaok should understand that a major and often overlooked advantage of ES is that it reduces variance considerably. You can either keep your bet size the same and benefit from reduced fluctuations, or bet slightly more aggressively for the same risk, and make more money. The extra EV, significant in itself, doesn't tell the whole story.
On an psychological level, playing blackjack ES feels closer to a coin-toss game than regular blackjack.

I encountered this one time. I remarked it was similar to the en prison system sometimes used at roulette. The dealer became rather confused and began paying back half my wager every time she had BJ, I think confusing what she was meant to be doing with the roulette procedures at the casino.

I should have said �LS vs Ace only adds 0.024%. This was the 4 deck number. The infinite deck number is 0.028%.
