Splitting 10's

If you split tens because the TC was really high and the dealer had a 5 or 6 showing, and then you get another 10 after splitting, should you re-split those 10s again?

IF the count is such that you have a mathematical advantage splitting 10s because of the number of 10s in the remainder of the deck, why should it matter if you have just split 10s, or got a 13 on the last hand, or lost or won the last 20 hands in a row?

IF the count says you have an advantage splitting 10s, then after you have split 10s, and you get another 10, if the count (after adjusting it for the 10 you just got) says you still have the advantage splitting -- then you still have an advantage splitting.

Of course, idiots and counters split 10s, so once you split 10s and you aren't a idiot, then the pit knows who you are. So you might as well just pick up your winnings on that last ten-split, and hit the door.

2 10's is without doubt a great hand. I understand that you're probably thinking that with a nice fat +count you're probably gonna get more 10's and the dealer will still break......but what if you catch a 5 or a six on one (or both) of those 10's that you split? And worse: What if your taking those 10's makes the count drop enough that the dealer dosent get one for the break and gets the 5 or 6 he/she needs for 21??

Please, please, just dont do it.

Then that increases even further the probability the dealer will bust.

And worse: What if your taking those 10's makes the count drop enough that the dealer dosent get one for the break and gets the 5 or 6 he/she needs for 21??

The gains from making the 20s will far outweigh the losses from the unlikely chance the dealer gets 21.

You need to stop thinking like this, these issues have been calculated over and over; it's not a matter of opinion.

The problem with splitting 10s on high counts has to do with cover, not EV.

The way to properly make this play is to gather up all of your chips (other than what you need for the splits), put them in your pockets as you stand up, and make sure that the chair is clear from behind you. If you win any of the hands, wait until the dealer has finished the pay-off, then scoop the chips in one clean motion as you turn away from the table and briskly walk to the nearest exit. The dealer will yell something about coloring up, but do not stop or even hesitate for a second. Make sure that you do not look up while doing this. Also, don't go back to the same shift for a few months.

I think you guys are making too big of deal about splitting tens. It's a play that I seldom make, but when I do I dont get all paranoid about it. Most of the time the players and pit will think you're a gambling fool.

I've only split 10s once (i've only been counting for a month) and it was no big deal. I had a TC of something like 5 or 6 at the end of the shoe.

The dealer had a 6 up, so I thought it was a great situation. I ended up losing one of the hands (so it was a push). After the hand the dealer proceeded to tell me why I should never split 10s and gave me all sorts of "valuable" advice on how to win.

It was not a big deal at all, and except for the dealer and 3 other players at the table, no one noticed.

Back when my bankroll was first building up red chip by red chip I would split 10s every time the count called for it. It was so fun to watch the ploppies bitch and moan and run to another table after I messed up the "flow" of the cards. Especially when I would take the "bust card" and the dealer would pull a 4 or 5 card 20 or 21. I really found this to be quite amusing. Now I hardly ever split 10s unless I am heads up and in a casino I hardly visit. It is just not worth the added exposure (for me anyway). Have fun SM
