When does the count say not to re-split pairs like an 8 or 9? Have you ever had a big bet up and had like 3 0r 4 resplits and a couple double downs and the dealer had a 5 or 6 and pulled 21 and you lost thousands?
Or when you have 9's and get like 4 or 5 re-splits is there a time to stop?
If I have a big bet out there then the count is telling me that there is a very good chance the dealer will bust his 5 or 6.
Yes I have had a dealer pull a 21 when I have split to 4 hands but more often than not you will make hands of 18, 19, even get a chance or two to double and win most if not all of them.
Most money I have ever won on a single hand was with a max bet out I split to 4 hands of 9's, got doubles on two of them and did not have a single hand over 15 with 6 max bets out. Dealer landed up busting!
These are the hands you dream of (except in your dream your double downs become 21's) max bet, splitting, hitting on your splits and watching that dealer bust his 15. When they come, win or lose, you jump on them. As long as that count is high, your 8 or 9 has a great chance of becomeing 18 or 19. The dealers 5 or 6 has a great chance of busting.
I don't know the index to stop splitting 8's or 9's against a 5 or 6 up. I would imagine that there is no such index, but I could be wrong.
The answer to your other question is yes, I have had multiple splits / double downs vs dealer 6 up that turns into a 21 and I have lost close to $1,000 on one hand multiple times. I have also won hands where I had a hard 16 versus dealer 10 up with an extreme high count and I have won. Both cases are unlikely, which means that they happen.
just shove out the money. Fomulas for variance and standard deviation already take these splits into account when you figure out the proper max bet for each game. Put out the money and enjoy the edge you've got.
during a high count, is the one I hate the most and seems to not make much sense.

Don't split 8,8 to a 10 at +6 or better.
