For single deck under LV strip rules, 3 players at the table and 70% pen, can players really have close to 1% advantage even with flat bet??? - It is said in the book...Can somebody help me to verify? Thank.
depending on the count, of course. the counting system you use does not affect the % advantage you have at any given point; rather, it provides a system of measuring such an advantage to varying degrees of accuracy.
With the table conditions you mentioned, a 1-2% advantage is realistically attainable -- assuming you have 3:2 payout on the blackjacks. Nowadays, "single deck LV Strip rules" usually mean that awful 6:5 payout. in which case, you are better off playing a 6-deck shoe or, preferably, a doubledeck with decent penetration (still available, typically at the quarter chip level).

While some of the older blackjack books are valuable in tracing the evolution of card counting, today's games are much different than those described in many earlier books. The good old days of "Strip rules" are long gone. Greedy corporate ownership, resulting in increasingly less competition, has brought in ever-worsening game conditions; from dealing half the deck/shoe to lowering the traditional payoff on naturals. One wonders how far the slide will go. Can further restrictions on doubling down and splitting be very far away?

how about single deck... dealt with about .8 penetration... where blackjacks pay 3:2... with surrender offered... & the ability to split often & double on any 2 cards.
wouldn't that be a cool VARIATION on the game of blackjack? cuz lord knows it'll be a MIRACLE before we see that one again!!

One dealer at the horseshoe (before it closed) often gave me 70% pen at single deck.
One time (at another down town casino), I was playing heads up single deck with a friendly dealer that must have known that I was counting. One time he dealt out 42 cards. That's not the the whole story. I thought to myself that since he burned a card, he only has 9 cards left in his hand. He then asked me if I wanted another round! I don't know for sure if he was serious as I said no (the count was negative).
