The bible of poker is 'Theory of Poker'- Sklansky. You will probably want to learn Texas Hold 'em as that is the biggest game in town.
If so 'Hold 'em' & 'Hold em advanced' also by Sklansky.
Try & understand Theory of Poker first before getting too much into the other two books. The learning curve is pretty hard, for me anyway. I've read all three, but will read & learn more general concepts from other books before attempting the Hold em books again, or playing!

Yes, start w the Theory Of Poker, but if your ready to jump in the low limit hold'em games at the casino or micro limit games on the net, start with Winning Low Limit Hold'em by Lee Jones. Its a great way to get started, pay attention to the starting hand/position suggestions. Its a good intro/primer...then as your playing and getting experience, read and re-read the Theory of Poker, and get started on the Advanced book from Sklanksky.
