Perspective on Carson City

Going to reno this weekend, thinking of taking a side-trip down to CC/Minden...do folks on this board think it's worth it (40 minute drive each way)? Are conditions good enough to substantiate it?

Last I heard, and it was a good while ago, there were some very playable games in Minden.

However, since this is for locals/cowboys, don't look to do anything which will seem too far out of the ordinary (anything above red action).

Just returned myself, joe shmo, from a trip to Lake Tahoe which included a side trip to Carson City. Carson City has two good casinos to play at. The Nuggett had a SD table, and the Carson Station had a DD game. Both were good setups for counting - my luck there was fair - broke about even. So. Lake Tahoe has good games, but the minimum on most worthwhile counting games now is $10. Its easy to find good games in Reno and CC with a $5 min. if that makes a difference to you.

Will probably make the trip & check it out, if for nothing else than a change of scenery...will report any additional details I observe.

Actually, it has several; the whole little casino is single deck. Playable at low stakes only, since even a single green chip gets called out. Most players there are $3 or $5 ploppies, so any real action stands out.

Beware that the pit boss watches the games by looking at mirrors above the pit, which are mounted at angles so he can watch the table without appearing to be watching.

Unless you're not concerned about being backed off, keep it short. The Carson City casinos report backoffs to each other via telephone, so if you're burned at one, you're burned at all three, at least for a few days on that shift.

Interesting, LVBear. I'm not surprised they are watching closely there and that you need to keep it short. My experience now tells me to play no longer than 1/2 hour at a time, and only once per shift per trip. Its more work, but the only way long term.
