Hi,

I am playing a 6/8 deck game or a CSM, and the dealer has a 10.

Is my decision different to hit or stand if I am holding 2 cards to make the 16 compared to a situation where I am holding 3 to 5 cards adding up to the 16?

If you are not counting, then there is a rule of thumb that says to hit your two card 16 vs T and to stand on multi card 16 vs T. There is a mathematical basis for this which is related to card counting and it revolves around the fact that the HiLo index for standing on this hand is zero.

A two card 16 can only consist of 9,7 or T,6 (8,8 is a different beast) which, when combined with the dealer's T both result in a negative HiLo count. So the correct decision is to hit. Similarly, a multi-card 16 combined with the dealer's T will always result in a HiLo count of zero or more, so the correct decision is to stand.

Of course, if you are counting, you should ignore the composition of your hand and simply use the index to make the decision.
