no more backoffs for me thankyou

Just got back from visiting my dad in Tennessee.
While there I spent a couple days in Tunica and read Ian Anderson's "Burning the tables in Vegas"

His ideas will go a long way to preventing further backoffs. ( of coarse its easy to get excited about this new stratigy while winning, let the standard deviation start swinging the other way and I might feel deferently)

My problem now is getting back in all the clubs that have backed me off already, which is most of the good ones.

Any of you Pro's out there have any comments about Mr. Anderson's stratigy?

"Burning the Tables" is perhaps the best 'real-life' book out there. While it takes some expense to carry some of his cover out (like working with Hollywood special effects artists) his table of cover plays is invaluable. I have used some of his cover plays and I have found them to be successful when the casino starts to get a bit 'warm'. While it takes a certain degree of bravado to use some of the cover plays, they are definitely worth exploring.

I feel that Andersen's earlier book, Turning the Tables on Las Vegas, has even more information of use to the green/low black player. Much of Burning . . . is of limited usefulness unless one is spreading heavy black/purple.

Despite the similarity of the titles, Turning . . . is a completely different book. It is out of print, but copies may be found at Amazon, or used bookstores.

How in the hell is a 10+ year old book that every casino pit boss and executive has already read and memorized going to keep you from getting backed off??????????????? Do you actually think the casinos don't know every trick in the book by heart???

Bosses do not know every trick, in fact they know very few tricks. Most of them don't know basic strategy, let alone fancy cover plays used by counters. Most just look for certain keys, but don't understand why they are important.

Bosses are mostly ignorant and paranoid henchmen who are entrusted to protect the game against an enemy they don't understand.

It is their job to protect the casino's bankroll and it is their job to know all the tricks used by advantage players. I know what it's like to be barred and harassed by a casino so don't try to make yourself look smarter by calling me "inexperienced". If you are going to say that the casino is going to stand around and watch their money go out the door then YOU sir are the "inexperienced" one.

Good players are always one step ahead of the casinos.

How much do the people watching the cameras get paid?

Is it enough to make them want to spend their off time reading books on card counting?

Or maybe the casino lets them read the books while on the clock.

I think if the people watching the cameras were all that ambitious they wouldnt be stuck in a little room stairing at video screens.

My guess is if you can count down a deck using Hi-Low and pick out a couple of key plays, you'll be the "authority" on your shift.

in another post to someone, if the eye is watching you -no cover will save you.you need some cover but like you said they are not going to stand around and watch their money leave.bj is not a game you can play 5 days a week year in and year out(at the large green and black level).you have to win as much as you can in a certain amount of time and then take a few months off and then start all over.

That was my whole point! Using tactics from a book printed over a decade ago will NOT keep a player "one step ahead".

Using that argument then no one would ever have any ambition at whatever job they do in society. You don't suppose that any of the Eye personnel would be driving for promotions and/or pay raises. Or in just keeping their jobs so that their families don't end up living in a dumpster?
In fact, the casino doesn't even NEED to know HOW a player is winning money... all they need to do is see the chips leave the chip rack and they move into action. I know the "party line" here is to say that casinos don't care if they lose money so that the book selling crowd can get people to think that taking money from the casinos is easy, or that dressing up in a clown suit will make you invisible to casino security, but there are players out here who know first hand what casinos will do to protect their money.

Just finished reading this thread, quite entertaining, really!

At one casino, I have observed the initial heat generated by large bets--especially winning ones. What is amusing is what happened afterward. I have actually seen a femal PC ask a female player if she was counting cards! Also, one gentleman was betting heavy green at at the same casino, but obviously did not have a clue. He got severe heat, and I had to eventually leave a favorable game, just in case, even though he was betting a lot more than me. Also, he tried to get me to stay at the table, saying I was "lucky" for him!

I've got to go along with "Stumpy" and the "entertainment" thing. Besides "drfish", during the time period I spent in casino surveillance "stairing" at the monitors was VERY entertaining only we called it observing and we were expected to spell it correctly.

Seems like staring at monitors might come second
to staring at flyers. A little more monitor staring
might be in order. That way you can make determinations
on your own (which I'm certain you're capable of)
rather than believing everything the jerk-offs at
Griffin send out.
