yeah, I know. And I hope you realize that the disjointed post was not meant to be personal. I must have been in an uncharacteristically cantankerous mood. No, I haven't read your book, but I have seen the rave reviews. I would enjoy reading it. I'll e-mail my address if you promise you won't send your friends in surveillance over for a "visit". I may be in Vegas next week, so I could pick it up in person.

after walking into your garage and not having room to turn around:)
Las Vegas does have millions of visitors, and casinos do have a harder task of keeping track of refused players, however, the same cannot be said in most of the other casino destinations in America.
Keeping track of all the, I don't know how many , thousands of players who play unrated in a big place and being able to retrieve all their back play same as a rated player, who gives you the key to all this info, would be an impossible nightmare.
Which is another reason that you are more likely to be hawked for a players card when you're betting green chips, as it now reduces the number of people to be tracked.
This would be like 1,000 times harder than keeping track of the backed off players and they are'nt all that great at that. I guarentee you that out of all my past anon. sessions the casinos have not ever be able to connect me to over 90% of them.
I will briefly describe a personal experience that might give you pause to that belief, but first, a couple of questions; 1)Were all the sessions you referred to at green/black and above? 2)Without being to specific, what [very generic please] % of sessions were LV/AC, riverboats, Indian casinos?
No matter what your response is to this post, you won't change my mind. Cellini I consider you hands down the MVP on BJ21 but I think you for some reason are making this refused name file sound much more easy and effective than it really is.
Maybe Cellini can't, and I'm not about to either, but I'll share some insight to why the refused name comments by him sounds credible to me, as I have experienced a rather unique situation that does lend itself to confirming what he has said about refused names and how casinos track them.
This may sound a little cryptic, so please accept my apologies here, but during the mid to late '90's I would visit a large store where huge spreads by all players were not only tolerated, but because the hold was so high, and the comps were non-existent, that many, many players never had players rating cards. Now, one would think, that full tables of heavy green to black and above, tables with "unrated" players would make the hawking of cards a top priority, but in essence, it wasn't. This always perplexed me, as I thought I was flying under the radar with all the other "non-rated" players, but the more I played, the more the pit(s) recognized me, thus never asking me if I wanted to be rated. Occasionally, a new critter would ask me if I had a card or if I wanted one, but only once, then I would never be asked again. Strange. Sometimes I'd get the shift manager, or the casino manager who stopped by and watched, but never backed off, and never hassled for a card. Again, strange. I wasn't the only one that experienced this, as there were many, many people [where one would think it would be too big a chore to track, and it didn't appear to be a big deal....LoL] who played without cards.
Then through sheer happenstance, I met at a party someone who not only recognized me, [but who truly, as I have confirmed over the years, despised the very casino where he/she works] but proceeded to tell the procedure by which the "refused name" system worked. Also, he/she was someone who I never really had any interaction with, so his/her information about me was very interesting, to say the least.
It is my belief, that if you play unrated at a casino often, [whatever that may mean] that your name is incidental to the casino. They know you, merely as, "the guy with the long sideburns, gold seiko watch, gold ring on left pinky finger, etc.. When you sit down at the table, they start a card, if unrated, they write down this info, and input it into the system. When they get a match, they "know" who you are. Maybe not your name, but who you are nonetheless.
If comps aren't important, anon play is fine. If they are, and you play where they can be substantial, then you are losing if you think that they can't track you based on being unrated or are less likely to be backed off, which is why, if comps have value, that the cards, as evil as they are, are the way to go, IMH and sad O.

If comps aren't important, anon play is fine. If they are, and you play where they can be substantial,
It is possible to get in substantial play as anon and still have almost all expenses fully comped. There are many ways. One is to use comps via old mailers. Another way is to earn comps at video poker and not get rated at BJ. And with the new banked systems at Mandalay, PPE, and Harrahs, you can get rated and accrue points in the softer markets and then spend them in locations where you prefer to not get rated. Although AJ plays anon much of the time, I'd bet it is rare that he spends a dime on food or lodging.
about comps, [and I know you're adding to this] although that clearly is related, but I do have a question for you.
you can get rated and accrue points in the softer markets and then spend them in locations where you prefer to not get rated.
Did I misread something, or maybe you can clarify this, but how do you accrue points without a card? Even if done in say, KC, and used on LV Blvd, how is this done anonymously? Or did you mean to say that you could use a legitmate card in KC, for example, and use the comp credits [points] for food etc. on LV Blvd. while playing anon at the tables. If so, Harrah's, MGB, etc., will still "KNOW" that you were actually in LV, at some date, not that that's an issue, but it should still show up in their database. The same about the mailers, as they were sent to an address where they must have had an ID/players card, which means you weren't anonymous when you qualified for them.
These are my last comments re: anon play and comps on a public board as the law of diminishing returns is starting to apply, :) but I was curious if I misunderstood something. Thanks

I couldn't care less if PPE is able to determine that I was in Vegas at some time to use comps. Let's say I run up a good comp total at Grand Biloxi or Caesars Atlantic City. I can go to a self-service comp kiosk in Vegas to print out comp vouchers while I play anywhere I want under any name, or without a name. I can stay at hotels using 3 night offers that come in the mail under various names that I've played under over the last five years. I could go play Vegas anonymously five times this year without ever being rated and live nicely on comps while I do so. One key is figuring out where the soft markets are so that you can run up good comp totals there by exploiting low heat or good comp promotions. I'm not going to point people to them, you have to find them yourself... but it isn't difficult.
assumption....and we agree on point. 'nough said. :)
Thanks for the clarification.
