New Years in Vegas

My wife wants to go to Vegas for New Years this year. I have only been there once in Feb. a couple of years ago. (before I starting counting and barely knew BS). My dilemma is that since I started counting I refuse to play bad games and it seem to me that the week of New Years should be packed with ploppies. Also everything else should be crowded as well (I assumed).
So my questions :
Anybody has spend New Years in Vegas and how was it?
I�m correct in assuming it is going to be packed, or maybe people would stay away from the cold?
Do gaming conditions worsen when there are a lot of people visiting Vegas ?
And� one final question
She wants to stay at one of the nicer Strip Hotels. I have always read that the best games are downtown. Are there any good games at the big Hotels.

Unless you are an established player, it is probably too late to get New Year's reservations at one of the major Strip hotels. You might get something downtown, but even that will be chancey.

As for game conditions, it probably depends on what you call good games. The tables will be crowded and for most of us here, crowded games are not good games. However, if you are not a counter, that may not matter much. There are good games to be found on the Strip and downtown both.

Chances are there are still rooms, but you're gonna pay top dollar (and I mean TOP)

was for NYE. We got there a few days prior and stayed downtown. There's quite a party on Freemont St. At midnight I found a hot chick in the crowd and told her it was my first trip to Vegas and I needed a kiss! It worked! Yes, it's packed everywhere. Depending on your bet level, this can be good or bad. One of the best times to play would be from about 4 or 5 AM to noon on the first while everybody is sleeping it off. It's very easy to find heads up tables during that time period.

.....If you love being not being able to get a seat at a minimum $50.00 table, and if you love being jammed in the middle of a crowd of rowdy drunks, and if you love being hassled by the LV whores, and if you love being wakened in the middle of the night by false fire alarms, then, by all means, you should be in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve.

I did it once. I won't do it again.

........if you can talk your wife into it. the lady and I were there a few years ago and very quiet, min bets were reasonable and never a problem finding a seat. no crowds at the restaurants, but the service was still poor. when you get tired of gambling you can catch the ballgames without the interruptions from the relatives. just tell your wife she gets a weekend "out of the kitchen" and save the turkey for christmas.

Low minimum games are harder to find when the casinos are very crowded, especially in Atlantic City.
