New postbuster guideline: Do not delete at request of a friend

Recently a post was improperly deleted from USA East. Apparently a postbuster deleted that post at the request of a friend, though the post did not deserve deletion under any of our postbuster guidelines. To help postbusters resist such pressure to delete a post, we have added a new postbuster guideline:

14. Do not delete a post at the request of a friend. Instead, relay the request to another postbuster who will be able to make a decision without being influenced by the pressure of friendship.

The postbuster who made the improper deletion is being given a second change. If there is a repeat offense, that postbuster's password will be disabled.

If it's a sensitive post, I can't think of a quicker way to get them read by everyone than to post "PLEASE BUST THE ABOVE." Since the neighborhood postbusters don't leave a mailbox for messages, a person emails their friend. Emailing you or David Matthews may not work if it's the weekend and you're out of town.

This new policy just seems like unnecessary goobledygook. The trash page and postbuster page do this work already. Postbusters can already leave posts up for quite awhile that need to be busted. Repost if you really think it's out of line. I don't think one day of being deprived of a person's comments hurts anyone.

I don't. When people get in serious trouble improperly applying techniques learned on these pages, don't come crying to people who might sort it out. What's legal and what gets you in a hell of a lot of trouble can be the same thing. Stanford Wong I'm sure will be willing to help.
