just played a mohegan sun today and got there when they were opening up new tables in high limit pit at shift change.they were bringing the cards in loose in plastic bags with a zip tie on the bag...the floor told dealer "count em,wash em,and shuffle them"...ive never seen this before and they counted them face down...they usually break open new decks check and count them face up for all to see wash em, shuffle and deal..does anyone know whats up?
...Don't play their game. If you are involved in blackjack where a new deck is not spread, face up, in index and suit order, to make sure all the cards are there and the backs are not checked for "dirt", forget it and walk. If it was for baccarat, don't worry about it. Many states in their gaming regs. have required procedures for bring in new cards. The procedure you describe meets none of them. This is a problem with self-regulated tribal casinos. Who you gonna call? The Lone Ranger and Tonto?

yes,this was for blackjack...i hadn't been there for a table opening in a couple of years,so i found this very strange,compared to what i remember them doing ..as i looked around all of the tables opening that i could see were using these plastic bags full of stacked but loose cards... i just don't understand why they would do this where you could see it... there was a full count of 312 card for the six deck shoe game and yes, like an idiot, i played...has anyone else seen this before?
they want the cards to start off as if they have been played for hours. This way the break pattern in the shoe is already established.
I know an Indian casino that has some dealers come in before the crowds and sit at closed tables while they open up, check and spread new decks of cards. Then the cards become a rubberbanded stack, with the empty boxes and put into a plastic bag that will be brought to some table when they switch cards.
A player could sit there at the table and watch the dealer do this but I have never seen one.
The cards in the plastic bag could be changed out but I do not think they do this based upon my past results there.
I think this is done this way because they do not want to kill time spreading cards on a live table. My problem with this procedure is it causes some to wonder if they are cheating and the fact that since it makes cheating easier that someone, someday just might do it.
Whenever a procedure creates doubt in the minds of players, someone with power should realize it and change it.
but I also feel if they cheated it would be hard to keep the dealers quiet. Because eventually the dealers would tell certain players, also the dealers tip rate were suffer from dealing a bad game.
