MIT book

During my last trip to Vegas, the MIT book had just come out and was big news in Vegas. Living in NorCal, I hadn't been to Vegas in a while, and noticed all the 'No mid-deck entry' signs up. This seemed to me in response to the team strategy outlined in the book. Being relatively new to this site, doesn't that rule negate 'Wonging?' The no mid-deck entry rule I noticed was also in effect in the larger casinos in Tahoe.

Those "no mid-shoe entry" signs have been around for a long time.
I think Uston's "Big Player" had a lot to do with it, although Wong certainly "helped".

It rules out "Wonging in" but not "Wonging out" ie leaving when the count is negative, since even the most surly pit boss wouldn't insist on a player finishing the shoe.
No mid-shoe entry can be advantageous to more sophisticated counters. Because players can leave, but not enter, during a shoe, the average number of hands a counter gets at the end of the shoe will tend to be greater than at the start. Since this is when he is most likely to make big bets this increases his expectation. I actually used to seek it out, all other things being fairly equal.

Even better when you can find a heads up game with the dealer rduring quite times.No chance of a bunch of ploppies jumping in as the count is high and ruining your win rate.

Also a good trick if others are there from the start is to start babbling or annoying them,but only when count rises :-)

Find a "new way of wonging." Then, write a book.

I love this rule for heads-up play. As soon as the shoe goes negative, just go play a hand at another table. You can come back to the first table, right after they have shuffled.

At some DD tables, I have seen the PC refuse to shuffle when all of the players sit out a hand. Instead, they let the table sit idle and unplayable for up to 30 minutes or so. Really weird behaviour. I should add that I am not talking about Vegas.

I've seen this happen as well (also not in Vegas). I was told by a dealer that if everyone gathered up their chips and stepped away from the table then he would be allowed to shuffle the deck.

I've also seen signs in my area that say "no mid-shoe entry" and "no increase in hands" so you can't spread to two hands in positive counts. Supposedly it is so you don't mess up the flow of the cards an upset other players. Yeah right.

The typical rule is that if everyone gets up from the table, then the dealer can reshuffle. However, I have seen some PC's get irritated and lock down a table for up to 30 minutes even when everyone did get up. Very self-destructive behaviour.

I believe they would eliminate blackjack altogether, as quickly as possible.

Next best thing to them is using all CSM's - at least they think so. Funny how sometimes that strategy doesn't turn out to be profitable either!
