Are the strategies in "Playing Blackjack as a Business" completely up to date? What adjustments, if any, need to be made for today's downtown Las Vegas games?
Is what he says true, btw, about his five count strategy giving the player a 3.6% edge? Sounds like an outdated figure.
Playiang Blackjack as a Business is a classic which belongs in the library of anyone serious about blackjack and advantage play.
However, it was published well over 30 years ago, and is seriously dated. The games of Revere's era (deeply dealt single deck) no longer exist.
The edges he claims for his counts are indeed exaggerated, even for the games of his era. In addition, his bankroll requirements are way low.
The full color basic strategy charts are as good as ever and still accurate.
Enjoy the book for what it is, a piece of blackjack history. Then update your library with a copy of Professional Blackjack, by Stanford Wong.

Lawrence Revere has made more professionals from his strategies than any other author. So I would think twice about what you say about Mr. Revere's Blackjack AS A Business. Even so today I suggest If you want to go pro than this is where it all begins.
I agree who hasn't both won /lost 30 units in an 8 deck shoe.

Revere would send his students out into the casinos, bankrolled as above. Naturally, they would frequently lose their bankroll.
When they reported this back to Revere, he would test their counting skills by having them count down a deck - a deck he had shorted a few cards!
When their count ended wrong, he would then suggest that they obviously needed more training sessions - expensive private sessions from him, of course.
