Keeping Records

Hi all

I am making an Access Database for my BJ records. I was going to collect

Month
Basic Unit
Buy-in
Cash-out
Duration and

Input Cash and
Drawings

the last two are because I am basically building a bankroll from scratch and will input a small amount from every paycheck until i accrue a large bankroll. Also, if need be, i may need to use some of my bankroll for personal use (like taking my girlfriend out to diner after a big win). I know that ideally i should never use my roll for personal use, but then what is the point of it all...

Anyway, from these i can report on

Total Bankroll
Personal Investment
Winnings
Amount won/lost vs basic Unit
Hourly rate and
Drawings

Should i collect anything else? Is there any other info i need to know?

You might want to add a section for the game and rules you were playing. How much do you win at double deck vs 6 decks vs 8?
Penetration?
Heat levels?
Crowd conditions and number of tables, etc.

I didn't really think of that stuff but...

where i play is a pretty small casino and there is NO heat. There are only a few tables and never too much of a crowd. There is always room to play but sometimes i get limited to one square if i'm not constantly betting on two (weekend evenings).

Penetration is always 5 out of 6 decks.

I normally play at this casino as it is the only one close to where i live.

They are building a new one in a year that will have about 30 table games (4 x the size of the present one) so maybe then i will have to worry about this stuff.

Also, I think you should keep in your records the dealers names that gave the most penetration. Or you could build a friendly relationship with them and draw more penetration that way. However, 5 out of 6 is good.

winning sessions and losing sessions separately. When it comes to tax time you must be able to total up all of your winning sessions and then total up all of your losing sessions separately for proper tax treatment.

Even if you fudge when you file (net out your wins and losses) you should still set up your database correctly up front since you never know when you might want to do it properly down the road.

You should track:

Casino
Date
Shift
Alias/Name
Length of Session
Unit Size
Spread Ratio
Game (SD, DD, 6D, 3CP)
Buy-in
$Won
$Lost
$Tokes
Session Comments

You could also put other stuff like

Game Speed: 150, 100, or 50 for hands per hour
Conditions: F-Full Table, M-Moderately Full, H-Heads Up
Heat Levels: H-Heaty, N-No Heat, M-Moderate Heat
Penetration: Good, Fair, Poor

Having separate entries for this makes it easy for you to compare your win rate when conditons are good versus fair or poor...or you can just include it all in the comment section.
