"Ramp" definition

To find your optimum bet for a given RC, you multiply your "advantage" (in percent) by the "ramp" (in units/%). Thus, if at a RC of -4 your advantage is 0.16666%, you'd bet (0.16666%)*6 units/% = 1 unit. When the RC gets high enough (about +2, if I remember correctly) that your advantage is 1%, then you'd bet 1%*6 units/% = 6 units.
Of course, this has practical limits. If your advantage is less than 0.16666%, you cannot bet less than 1 unit (unless you wong out). Similarly, if your advantage is very high, say 3%, risk of ruin considerations will keep you from betting 18 units.
I don't have my copy of KOBJ handy, but as I recall Vancura and Fuchs give a graph that shows your advantage at various RC's for single deck, double deck, 6D, and 8D.
However, in practical terms, the "ramp" isn't very a very important concept... they just use it to introduce their betting strategies.
