I was in shreveport,la over the weekend and witnessed two gentlmen at two different casinos betting $5,000+ per hand playing 6 and 8 deck shoes. Both tables were 500 min, 10000 max reserved tables. I watched one of the men lose $150K in about an hour. Both of these casinos offered a single deck game. Why would these men play with 6+ decks if they could just as easily have played a single deck game and reduced the house edge to almost nothing?

These men are gamblers. They are there to be entertained. They are not particularily concerned about winning money - they already have plenty of that. Did the guy who lost $150K seem upset by it? Probably not.
Perhaps they do not like having to wait while the dealer shuffles the cards every few rounds in single deck games. Or maybe they simply don't like handling the cards. Germs, you know. :-)
Most high rollers are not that concerned with winning - they just enjoy having the casino cater to their every whim.
There are no royal families in the USA. However, anyone who can afford to play blackjack at $2K per hand or so can go to a casino and be treated like a visiting monarch.
