high count

Lets face the fact that we have large true count +3 or +4
And everything is good except the cards.
For Example 2,T against T

3,4 against 8

5,7 against 9
When my count would be ziro and below that then no question,i play according to the basic strategy
But what to do in this situations,if i have huge count??.I know that BIG CARDS ARE COMING
And most of cases i lose this situation if i use basic strategy

Is it better to surrender and hope that next hand u will get better chances to attack?

This is a beginner forum, but it is about 5th grade, not pre-school. You need to at least learn the very basics and then there will be lots of people here to help you with questions that you will have along the way. You are asking questions about what to do when you should not even be in the casino. Basic strategy is for non-counters. It is based on the typical make-up of the deck. When you use a count system the strategy changes based upon the count. YOU DO NOT PLAY IT USING INTUITIVE GUESSES. If you don't know the correct way to play a hand for the count, you use basic strategy. Most guesses, even by very experienced players, turn out to be incorrect more than half the time when it comes from straying from basic strategy.

Yes, 5,7 against 9 has a better chance of busting in a high count. But I seriously doubt that you'll ever see a count high enough such that surrender is a better option than hitting.

I bought Million Dollar Blackjack by Ken Uston, just to read about the Ace-Five count. Here it is:

Ace -1, Five +1, bet 2 units when the count is between -1 and +1, 1 unit when less, 3 units when more. I assume he means the true count.

He claims this method can reduce the house edge by 0.3%. That's half the bank edge where I play (Missouri), which is good enough for me because I'm lazy.

The book is (c)1981 and he focuses on single deck. My question is, can anyone verify this for a 6-deck game with 70% penetration?

I think you will see that in the cases you mention (+3 true count HiLo), you would hit. When you have a stiff, you have negative expectation, but hitting loses less in the long run in the situations you mentioned. With much higher counts +5, you would stand on a 12 v 2.

You bought a great book, the best ever written in my opinion. Best are the actual stories.

Counting the aces and fives alone will not give you sufficient information to either get an edge or significantly reduce the house edge in shoe games. You should at least use hi-lo. Since you bring up Uston, however, I'd say that you should use the traditional hi-lo rather than Uston's version. The only difference is that he counts the seven instead of the two. The difference in power between the two is not great, but for purposes of discussion, indeces, etc, it will be easier if you are using the model upon which most studies and literature is based.

You cannot intuit the correct way to play blackjack. You have to pay some dues in the form of study. Read a primer on how to play the game, such as Professional Blackjack. Once you learn basic strategy and a simple count system, such as high-low, you can afford to spend time on the history of counting, the math behind the game and the shelves full of real and not so real personal accounts of past and present experts and not so expert.

If you are curious what happens at what counts, there are a few very good software programs which allow you to simulate just about anything that can ever happen in blackjack, short of scoring a night with a CW. Maybe even that has been simmed. Email Norm Wattenburger at Qfit to find out.

The betting correlation and the playing efficiency are too awful to waste words on. Of course there is NO Insurance correlation at all!.

Thank-you for your responses. I guess I should have searched this board for "Ace-five" first. I found a link to Grinder's Warehouse, who ran a sim on 6-deck. The bank's advantage is reduced by 0.35%, but you need an 8 bet spread. The initial bet averages 1.4 units. So in Kansas City, instead of betting $10 and losing 6.5 cents per hand, I'll bet $14 and lose 4.2 cents per hand, which is not worth the effort.

Million Dollar Blackjack is a good read, but the tables are harder to follow than anything I've seen on the net. I also don't trust the numbers and figure that some miscalculations have been discovered over the last 20 years. I'll probably follow it up with Professional Blackjack.

Let me know about that CW sim. I've busted about 50 times more often than I've scored, betting the table max, of course. No H17, no DAS, late surrender.
