Help Please--- Illustrious 18 vs Surrender

I pulled a chart on the I18 and am trying to understand it. I currently play a game with a late surrender option.

When it says to stand on 16 vs 10, or stand on 15 vs 10, at various counts, should I disregard these if I am playing surrender? It would seem that this is referring to only those games where you must hit the 16 or 15, ie, non-surrender games. I assume that surrender is still the preferred play?

Also, it would seem that splitting 10s puts a huge flashing light on your head and attracts a lot of attention. In your wizened experience is it really worth doing or does it then cause people to examine your play from then on. I would think that the potential advantage to be gained by taking advantage of that very infrequent occurrence is outweighed by the fact that such a move would burn into the memory of everyone sitting at the table including the dealer. Opinions?

surrender will also bring heat. Yes, surrender first. Use indices however.

Surrender is always first (over hitting, standing or even splitting).
If you want to get the most out of your surrender, you should also learn indices for about 7 surrenders (16 and 15 v. 9,10,A and 14 v 10). If you count, and use those 7 indices, the value of surrender goes up from 0.05% advantage to 0.15% advantage, and GREATLY reduces your variance.

Since it is quite a bit different than the generic 16 index. I use this along with the other 7 surrender indexes you suggest.

Where can I get the indices for surrender?

If you got 16 vs 9,T,A - just surrender it.
The indices (and the gain from deviation from basic strategy) aren't worth learning.

8,8 vs T split or surrender is the exception.

Thanks SOTSOG. At this point in my game the fewer indices I have to remember the better. I am only looking for the indices with a good bang for the buck. Once I am a Jedi with respect to those I can consider layering in some of the marginally-positive refinements to the game......gotta take this one step at a time.

I had exactly the same problem. I finally ended up running some hugh simulations to find out the best response. In fact where I play Bj late surrender is only allowed on the first two cards, so my solution was to have a strategy and index for some hands that consisted of two card hands (surrender eligible) and three or more card hands (non surrenderable). That way I maximize and play the best possible strategy at what ever is thrown at me. i have figured all of this out. Tell me what you play if its the same conditions i have i'll send you my BS and index sheet.
