Was playing at local Indian casino and got blackjack at TC +9 with hi-low. Dealer immediately offered even money and I accepted. He then commented that I could have also taken insurance in addition to the even money because "insurance is a separate side bet". He had noticed that I had insured previous hands. I confirmed that I had heard him correctly, then dropped the subject. I was not about to confirm with the pit boss, who was out of earshot at the time.
I assume that the dealer was confused about the rule, but has anyone out there ever heard of any casino allowing this? If this hypothetical rule were allowed, it would provide some additional insurance advantage, though would only come up with player blackjack. I wonder what it would be if it were allowed.
