If playing reasonable stakes at Vegas Club, expct to be backed off quickly. Play a short session and come back on another shift or day.

The BEST is El Cortez their 2-deckers are among the very best anywhere; but there is a caveat. They will NOT take more than red / (light) green action with perhaps a 5-1 spread. Keep your sessions to maybe 40 mins. Enjoy.

I could not believe the paranoia level at some of these places... The Golden Gate seemed to be particulary psychotically paranoid...

I'm surprised you found anything playable there.

The first time I played Blackjack in a casino, I was 23 and was on a trip with my girlfriend (now my wife). We were walking down the strip and went into the BC because there was a sign out front saying they had $1 Blackjack tables. Neither of us knew anything about how to play. We didn't know how to give the dealer our money, how to handle the cards, make signals, etc., and we DEFINATELY did not have the first clue about playing strategy.

After about an hour, my girlfriend turned to me and said something like, "he's dealing so fast that I can't even count the cards". The dealer stopped mid-deal and admonished us in harsh tones that we should not mention the word "count" at a blackjack table. It reminded me of the time that I jokingly asked my Mom if she still had my gun when we were at the airport security checkpoint (Thats a VERY bad idea, BTW).

Everytime I think about the BC, I remember the look on that dealers face. It was like the look you would expect if you talked about forming a Democracy movement in China.

I've never played at the Barbary Coast, but I have read so much about how paranoid they are. It almost sounds like a rite of passage for a card counter to get backed off at the Barbary Coast. I think it would make for a fun friendly contest with another counter to see who could last the longest (in minutes) before getting backed off there.

The constraints: Each counter would (individually) be required to play-all without changing tables or Wonging, betting perfectly with the count (using a 1-16 spread on the 6-decker). The only cover the counter would be allowed to use would be not related to playing or betting (putting on a act).

How long do you think a counter would last (on average) before getting backed off if playing according to the above scenario and betting red?

If one gets a hot shoe, then he would show his spread first and would get barred shortly after.

A better contest would be to see who could pull of the largest spread during a session without getting barred.

Or, for fun, reverse your challenge. See who can get barred the fastest.

Never been barred there myself, but have played there a number of times. Always played short sessions (1.0 hour), but spread ranged from 1:8 (most of the time) to 1:6 (when the PCs were breathing down my neck).

Of course, the rules there are pretty crappy nowadays (over two decks cut off on their 6D last time I checked). Also, the last time I was in there (March) they were cutting off at least a whole deck on their 2D, and with other crummy rules, I was just there to be stubborn.

I've concluded that the vast rep for this being a place where you get barred must be dependant on something I do not yet understand, such as differences between shifts (try 4:00 in the morning), or one's act, such as acting stoopid and aggressively friendly toward the PC and dealers. Time of day can't be the only variable, however, as I know I have played there on day shift (weekdays) as well.

Who knows, maybe I've just been lucky, as far as heat there. Perhaps it also helps that the most I ever pulled out of there was a couple hundred bucks, back in the days when the pen was closer to 0.8/2.

and not run afoul of many casinos for counting. I've been zinged a few times, but the BC was the stupidest zing I have ever had. Sat down and played and the count never went positive, but flat-betting I was winning nearly every hand. For about 15 minutes.

Never seen such paranoia. flat-betting + simple basic strategy + luck and I was toast. :)

My suspicion is that counting/spreading would have little to do with a backoff there. I think the general rule is "if a player's chip pile shrinks, he can play. If it grows, he is unwelcome." What you would need to win your contest is just one of those negative variance sessions and you could last a while I'd bet...

Sometimes paranoia is taken way too far...

Trying to observe why this place has such rep as a paranoid joint while running up and down the strip on my last trip. I did not play there just passed through and watched a bit... nothing really jumped out at me... I have a feeling the pit managers have upper management conned into being paranoid and feel glad that they have all these aggresive jerks kicking people out for winning.......
