David Duke, the BJ player and Politico

has recently accepted a plea bargain concerning his mishandling of funds and tax evasion for the purpose of using that money to gamble with.

It has been reported by first hand accounts, several times, on the old South pages, by players that played at the same table, that he was a poor player and a very large bettor.

It is now being stated on his web site that he, being a very smart man, and knowing the house edge in gambling and that the house always wins, would never spend much money gambling except in a small recreational way.

This flies in the face of what has been written here going back over a year or more.

I think he would be better off telling what may be the truth that he developed a gambling problem that led him to some poor decisions.

After all, many celebritys claim the same thing in regards to booze, and drugs and even sex and then get treatment and all is forgiven.

In fact in many cases they are then looked upon as heroes.

... who was a member of the Klan? If so, and if his political career is over, good riddance to bad rubbish.

As for celebrities who clean up, they are only heroes to themselves, other celebrities, and the celebrity worshipping entertainment press. The rest of us have better things to do than to idolize washed-up druggies who will probably be back in rehab within a year from their last visit.

I've seen him at the casinos many times. I don't think $500 a hand is a small recreational gambler.

keep an open mind as to what he has to say, little if any has to do with our black brothers

Jesse Jackson did a very similar thing but the Justice Dept. never went after him, hmmmm, i wonder why?

He was former head of the KKK. He was elected to the US Congress (from Louisiana) despite his background. Just proves there are alot of Americans that agree with Trent Lott.

When David Duke was elected, we had a choice between him and a politician who was videotaped receiving a bundle of money from another politician who was later convicted and sentenced to prison for accepting and/or soliciting bribes. Good ol' La. politics!!

It is my remembrance David Duke never was elected to the US Congress although he did get a Republican nomination. To the Republican's credit (and I give credit to Republicans sparsely), the Party repudiated his candidacy.

He did serve in the La. Legislature as a Republican for some time the best I remember.

-You are technically correct. However, no offense meant, but to expect a known racist and hatemonger (let a alone a politican) to suddenly become forthright, and then publicly take an objective view of himself is expecting an awful lot!

Unlike most of his racist ilk, Duke was apparently sharp enough to figure out that both he and his ideas would be more palatable to the American public if he was wearing a suit and tie than a white sheet. Its all in the packaging.

David Duke has always been a crook. He took contributions meant for a political campaign and used them for private purposes (gambled and embezzled them). I would not be suprised if he inflated his gambling losses and left a considerable sum buried under a porch somewhere.

If being a crook wasn't bad enough, being a Nazi sympathizer, former grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, and White Supremicist must just be icing on the cake.

No one has ever insinuated that Jessie Jackson was a racist...but maybe there is a parallel to the crook part (using donations to Rainbow Coalition to pay off women he got pregnant or to pay child support without the consent of the donors).

You cannot equate those things with being a leader of the KKK, or for that matter with spending one's political life as a segregationist. It's like comparing a jaywalker with a bank robber.

People who are like David Duke but do not have the balls to say it publicly make a foible of any prominent African-American a metaphor for African-Americans in general.

Any time race enters a discussion we are going to be treated to "Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton" rhetoric.

i think he is far less tolerant of Jewish people, as he feels they put the good of Israel before that of the U.S.
