I was recently was tapped on the shoulder by a PC. Not a backoff, though - I was asked to produce my ID and to give my SS# because my total buy-in for the day exceeded $10k and the casino needed to file a CTR. This was true - I had just pulled $1k out of my wallet for the 11th time that evening (some bad variance to start the evening -- I actually finished ahead $5k).
This was a semi-sticky situation, since I was playing using an alias.
I have bought in for $10k+ at casinos in the past, and this is the first time a casino has ever enforced the CTR requirement in this manner. Has this happened to anybody else with a $10k+ buy-in (in a 24 hr period)? Is it a common practice? Should I avoid buying in for $10k+ in the future? This could pose a problem (and limit my hours of play in some places), since it is not that unusual for me to (win or) lose $10k in an hour or two. Of course, winning $10k doesn't pose the same problem because I'm not stupid enough to try to cash out $10k in one visit to the cage.
