Bogus Chips
Did you hear what happened to the Horseshoe a few years back?
They put a thousand $5000 chips into circulation. (5 million worth)
They stopped using them when they realized that they had cashed in over 7 million in $5000 checks.
There are many countermeasures used to prevent counterfeiting.
First take any high denomination chip and put it under a black(UV)light. You will see glowing logos and symbols appear which are used to verify that the chips are real. If you see a tiny dot that glows if is usually a security feature which contains micro printing only visible using a loupe or magnifier of some sort.
I have also heard that yellow and chocolate chips may contain electronic tags which could be scanned to verify chips are authentic. Although this is very possible, I don't know of any casino which is actually using this technology at present.
Although this may not carry as heavy a penalty as counterfeiting money, it could certainly bring fraud/forgery charges.
Good Luck & BE CAREFUL!!!
