converting true count w/ hi-lo

I've been learning hi-lo, and was wondering for the sake of betting and playing variances, how do you round out the true count to a nice whole number? For example, the running count may be 5 w/ 2 decks remaining, so if the true count is 2.5, do you round up to 3 or down or what? (my playing deviations are based on true counts of 1, 3 and 5) and is there a rule that applies for all the numbers (always round up?) I can't find any internet material that mentions this, and it seems it would be an important factor. I would rather only have to deal w/ estimating whole decks that are remaining, trying to estimate half and quarters just seems too easy to screw up. So basically I'm wondering how much of a margin of error there is. anyways, I just started learning hi-lo on a whim w/o researching the other counting strategies, but maybe I should've done KO. thanks.

You haven't made it to 3 yet, so it's not time to make your adjustments. Usually fractions of counts are truncated (or "floored"), not rounded. In any case you've already introduced some error and assumptions into your game by only estimating to the nearest whole deck remaining (which I think is probably OK for a 6-deck or 8-deck game). And since we're talking about a multi-deck game in this case, for your specific question quite frankly it doesn't matter.

As to whether or not you should bomb away with KO or with Hi-Lo I am assuming you are stuck somewhere with multideck games. I personally am not much of a fan of HiLo. As far as the level I counts go, it's all just personal preference really.

I'm guessing that truncating or flooring is to round down to the nearest integer, right? anyways, should I be estimating to the nearest half or quarter deck when I do the true count instead of using whole decks? and when it's in between is it best to round down or up when estimating the number of decks left? I've been learning HiLo based on the online articles I've found, and none have been clear on this, they just say divide the running count by the number of remaining decks. It seems pointless to put so much effort into this if only to be screwed up by a little detail at the end when converting the true count.

And you are doing just that. Don't worry about it too much. If you want to gradually become more accurate the best thing to do is purchase some of the software available on this site and learn a little more as you go. Thinking about it logically 2.5 is alot closer to 3 than it is to 1 (since you are ignoring 2). But you also have to consider index reversals. It can get fairly complicated but it isn't necessary.
