Even though I have been a longtime reader of BJ21, I have been completely clueless to the changes in legislation regarding Indian casinos in CA. My understanding is that some of them now offer "vegas style" BJ without the "ante" you had to pay previously.
If this is true - then my question is, what is the nearest casino to LA to offer true Vegas style BJ?

San Diego County Indian casinos all have games similar to Las Vegas. Barona and Golden Acorn have the best games the last time I checked. CBJN is the place to check on specifics.
You may also want to post on the CA casinos page for more answers but I have played at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA, which is basically Palm Springs. I think it was about a 1 1/2 hour drive from LA-decent 6 deck game. Also played at Spotlight 29 casino in Coachella-same deal here as well.
Fantasy Springs is good. There are several casinos between LA and Arizona on I-10. The good ones are on the right (south) side of the freeway. Morongo on the left still has ante.
