Cheating Dealers

I was playing blackjack over in Lake Charles about a week and half ago against what I consider an unscrupouls dealer.
I played the previous night until about 3AM went to my room and got about four hours of sleep. I was back in the casino at 7:30AM.
The dealer was this slick willie type who thought he knew all the answers. I was playing one on one being that the casino was pretty empty being a weekday.
Anyway it is my policy never to toke or tip anyone in a casino ever. I could tell the dealer was getting angry about this but kept playing anyway.
He then started to run a game on me. He dealt a push, tried to take my money, I corrected him. Then on two other hands I actually won and he tried to collect.
There was a fourth time I was sure I won but he took my money anyway. I was just too tired to protest or be sure.
What suprised me was that twenty minutes later a guy shows up and says hes from survellance, corrects the dealer on the mistaken hand, and gives me my $20 back! This is the first time this ever happened to me.
I play about ten more minutes and go back to my room to get some more sleep. Never play when your tired.
All in all I stayed at the casino three days, got comped food and rooms worth $350 retail and walked away with $406 in winnings. Not great but I can live with it and all it cost me was a tank of gas.

kelvis: Congrats on your winning trip and a story of a lifetime. Fortunately, the eye in the sky caught the dealer's "mistake". At least you know that casino is honest and surveillance wasn�t suspicious of your play.

In most casinos, only a select few people even know who surveilance is. In ALL casinos, the surveilance would call the Pit manager or floorperson and they would correct it.

Couldn't be a true story about a bad dealer. There IS no such thing, right??

Thats what happened. Believe it or not. It was early morning in the
casino and I'd say no more than seven people were in there playing
the table games. They must have been watching me upstairs pretty close.
It suprised me. I guess they figure most people are gonna lose it anyway
and a courtesy call was in their intrests for good customer relations.

For one, the poster really did not know the guy was from surveillance. It could just have been a guy who received a phone call from the eye.

I can often tell who surveillance is. It is that guy wearing the $8 shirt who sits down at the table next to me and a partner in a restaurant after a session, listens to us order and chitchat for 15 minutes while he just sits looking at his menu, then leaves.

people who claim that your story is "suspicious" have probably never been out of Kansas. Things like this (and much more) happen from time to time, especially in smaller casinos.

I have come to the conclusion that I have "not seen it all" yet. I've played in the MGM Grand and watched a playboy centerfold-type walk down the aisle wearing a completely see-through outfit, all action within 50 feet came to a stand-still. I've seen a drunk puke all over the table and dealer. I've seen two women players get into a down-and-dirty cat-fight for no apparent reason. I've seen dealers make terrible mistakes, for and against the house, I've seen minor dealer errors cause a dealer to be replaced, major dealer errors that caused nothing. I've seen pit critters make pro-player decisions, and anti-player decisions. I've seen counters and non-counters get backed off and/or 86'd. I've personally been 86'd once for playing as part of a team, with people I had never met before in my life, one just happened to walk up and place a bet in my betting circle at a crowded table. I've seen a dealer and a player argue in two different languages, neither one having any idea of what the other was saying. I've seen dealers give horrible advice. I've seen dealers re-play all 7 hands at a table explaining how things would have worked out had first base played differently, to stop one of those "you should not have hit, you screwed up the cards for the rest of us" type arguments.

In short, nothing would surprise me. Not even if Rod Serling sat down at my table and quietly announced "now you are in the twilight zone." I'd simply say "too late, been there for years already." :)

I can understamd how the correction could have been made. This dealer could have been the under watch because of previous player's complaints in the recent past. I'm not saying the surveillance dept came down, but someone who wanted the dealer to know that he's on the verge of losing his job.

1. new dealer being watched, not because of fear of dishonesty, but just wanting to make sure he/she is handling the game correctly, following shuffle procedures, not losing sight of the chip tray, etc.

2. dealer suspected of dishonesty.

3. Bored EITS folks that watch a high-limit game for lack of anything else to do.

etc.

There are plenty of reasons something could happen, some just random events, some due to scrutiny for one reason or another.

As a dealer, you are allowed to make all the mistakes you can make provided you call the floor over for each and every one of them. There are dealers who still can't figure out the simplist of blackjacks, or baccarat dealers who have been dealing it for years still can't memorize 3 bets or figure out conversions. The only thing you will lose your job over is fixing your own mistakes more than a few times, mouthing off to the floor while on the table (off the table, you can have all the arguments you want), dealing to an underage player, or knowingly stealing from the casino. There may be other extenuating circumstances but thats about it. Its really hard to get shit-canned as a dealer, you gotta either be retarded or just happen to get put in a situation that goes sour and its too late to fix.

In our casino, a security guard may check an ID before you begin to play. Even though IDs are checked at the door, security does checks on IDs while on the gaming floor all the time. If the dealer or pit floor does not feel comfortable with someones age then the dealer may not deal to them until the ID is confirmed. That includes everyone in his/her party. In Vegas, the dealers are allowed to check IDs for suspicious looking ages, again, including everyone standing with the gambler. It only takes one time for an underage player to be in the casino. Surveillance will back up tapes and see what tables the person played on and there have been dealers get fired, while others get looked over.
