Just learn the "Illustrious 18"
IIRC it was Don Schlesinger who analyzed indexes to determine which ones had the highest gain, based on their frequency of occurrence and on how much was being bet at those counts. Negative indexes aren't especially valuable since you don't have much (if any) money out during them. Pair-split decisions aren't as valuable because they just don't occur all that often.
He came up with the top eighteen plays (sixteen regular plus two surrender) that are especially valuable to use an index for. Hitting/standing on 16 v 10 is the most important. IIRC, Wong's PBJ (not the sandwich) mentioned that this decision is worth more than all of the pair-splitting indexes combined.
Those indexes are the ones you should learn. If you want to use more, that's your choice of course, but you won't gain much by memorizing them.
