Apparently some Casino's are offering a new wager called Casino Surrender. If the dealer has a face card but doesn't have a blackjack, and if you have a two card hand of 20, you can accept an immediate payment of 50%. Of course the expected value of this hand is worth about 57%. Has anybody seen this wager offered and have you seen any player actually take it?
EV for player 20 vs dealer 10 up (and standing) is .55, taking the "casino surrender" option turns this into a .50 EV.

On page 333 of Stanford Wong's book called Professional Blackjack, it states that your expected value is to win 55.9% if you have two face cards against the dealer's face card. If you take Casino Surrender, you will win 50%. Rather than look it up to find the exact amount, I said APPROX. 57.
Any new twist from the casinos will reduce your winning or increase your loss unless the ones for short-lived promotion. Casino surrender is worse than insurance bet. It is a sugar coated poison. Is there anybody really biting it?

I assume there is a count at which this becomes a +EV play. If the remaining decks were 50% tens (admittedly, a VERY high count), for example, (1) a 100% chance at 1/2 unit would likely be worth more EV than (2) a ~42% chance at winning 1 unit, a ~52% chance of a push, and a ~6% chance of losing 1 unit.
Interesting, this is essentially a form of "insurance" play meant to squeeze more money out of the basic human trait of 'hating to lose with a good hand'
Yes, the rule could be exploited in a high count, moreso if its a S17 game. If were encountering this game I would definately sim it out and get an index on it - it could be very worthwhile.
Don't expect to get the opportunity for a correct casino surrender often.
Professional BJ has a section on '5 cards' where the player can turn in a 5 card hand for a half-win. The count for turning in a 20 against a dealer 10 is +10.
Becuase all those 17s are already beaten. Dealer's hit is just another shot for him to pull a 3 or 4.
Your right, i was thinking hitting 17 in general.
There was a lady at the Stardust that would "invoke" the option almost every time... and it was really helping her. She swore that the dealer "always" had a twenty vs. her twenty.
I'd guess that she was coming out slightly ahead vs. a push.
It seems like if the count was high enough (I heard tc10+) that this option could be advantageous, but I wonder if it could be incorporated into cover. i.e. when the count gets high enough so that the it's a 50/50 option or better (I'd guess a tc of 8 or so).
Also, I wonder if this option could be used favorably w/ wonging in on a sd game that's 6/5 (Luxor).
