"More money than they need to"?
"I keep preaching to everyone that the big casinos are making more money than they need to."
SB, perhaps you should revise your sermon. I have to admit that I shake my head in disbelief when I hear otherwise respected fellow APs rant about "corporate greed" and make statements like this. Exactly how much money do they "need" to make? At the risk of pissing off everyone here...What business model would you recommend to the casino execs that caps their earnings where you think they should and increases our ability to exploit their games for our own benefit?
On a recent trip to LV, I saw DD tables with great pen, and S17 shoe games with equally good pen sitting empty while the 6:5 tables were overflowing with people playing them (as were the Rio's even money games.) The Wheel of Fortune machines actually had people standing behind players waiting for a seat at a machine. If I were a casino exec, and walked through my casino and saw this, you'd be calling me a greedy SOB, because I'd close down some more of the better games and open even more of the 6:5 & add some more WOF machines.
Until people choose to educate themselves and stop playing the bad games, the casinos will continue to offer them. It's *good* business practice to maximize one's earnings. That's exactly what we try to do every time we go play. Do I hate that their business goals conflict with mine? Hell yeah. Do I accept this? Hell yeah.
SB, Did you make more money on the BJ tables than you needed to last year? I know I can pay my bills and have a fairly nice life without ever playing BJ at all, so every unit I took from them is more than I "needed." I have no intention of stopping, and have no expectation that they stop either.
I believe the only way to get the industry to change is to somehow educate people about the bad games. Making them care once they're educated is the next challenge. I am not sure one can maneuver through the maze of the average gambler's mind using logic as a compass.
Respectfully,
