In the summer of '98 I visited a tribal casino outside of Los Angeles. It was probably the closest tribal casino to LA. It ran under rules I have never seen in any other casino. As it was explained to me, the tribe just ran the casino. To cover their costs and make a profit, the tribe charged players a fee for each bet. I do not recall if it was a set fee, or a percentage of your bet. At the start of each blackjack hand, the players placed their bets, and also placed another chip on the layout that went straight to the tribe win or lose. In essence the players were all playing against each other. If the casino "won", took in more cash than they paid out, they had to return this amount to the players through special bonuses and other promotions.
Am I imagining things, or is this really how CA tribal casinos operate? Can anyone give me specifics on how the fee works? Is it a percentage or a fixed fee?
As I recall this casino also had a bingo hall and slots. I do not recall if they had other table games. Any info is appreciated. And I don't think this place is a toilet.
