Newspapers requiring registration
However, several recent "e-mailings" have taken me to sites, that, in order to get sought-after info., require me to register with real name, address, etc.
More and more newspapers are requiring registation to be able to read what was once freely available. Presumably they are doing it for market research, but undoubtedly also to compile mailing lists.
When I use a newspaper in the BJ21.com newsletter that requires registration, it is because I was unable to quickly find the story in a paper that does not require it. If I have a choice, I'll use the paper with no registration requirement.
Example: Most recent newsletter title something like "CC's get advantage at 21" or something of that nature...clicking on the "link" takes me to a Memphis site wherein they REQUIRE me to log-on with personal data, in order to read said info.
The Memphis site is the Commercial Appeal, which is a large newspaper in Memphis.
The sites we link to in the newsletter are legitimate newspapers and similar websites. What many people do when asked to register is to use a "throwaway" email address, such as a hotmail address, and "throwaway" personal information as well. If you use throwaway information with the correct demographic and zip code information, they will get the correct info they need for market research, but not personal info you may not want to give out. I never read any emails that come to the "throwaway" email address I use.
