What do you that use AOII think of this?
Per Carlson's book, BJFB, AOII uses Ace side counts in betting strategy only. Carlson's logic is that the extra effort for anything but betting strategy is not worthwhile...however, if I am counting ACE's anyway there must be some use of that side count information for adjusting playing strategy, or what is called a multiparameter adjustment. Hi-Opt I and the Gordon counts often are used with these adjustments, and I would think AOII can be too, at least in a limited number of situations. What do you folks think?
I must admit that tampering with Carlson's tables/recommendations seems to me like altering the DNA molecule--one does not know of the possible consequences.
I've read some stuff on side count adjustments, enough to know that 6's & 7's are usually better than aces to side count for adjustments. (Griffin, Theroy of Blackjack, & Humble, World's Greatest Blackjack Book, plus other stuff on this site). I believe an adjustment to running count for playing strategy would be most appropriate when faced with a double down situation, particularly an 11 or 10 versus an Ace or Ten. Upon the recommendation of other's here at this site, I used the excel spreadsheet found at BJMath to come up with some adjustments to running count. For the following instances the below adjustments would seem to be worthwhile:
10 v 10, make double play at TC 4 less than normal (ie TC 5 instead of 9) when there is one more ace than normal left in the deck.
10 v A, make double down play at TC 1.5 less than normal (ie TC 6.5 instead of 8) when there is one more ace than normal
11 v A (alos v 2-4, 7-10) if there is an extra ace, make the double down play when the TC is +2 higher than recommended.
10 v 16, for an extra ace, hit when TC is +1 instead of normal 0.
All four of those situations are members of the I18. So, maybe the plays are good ones?
I appreciate your feedback.
