Academic means anything related to school/academy.
---------
I don't think so. Since when is say, a school of photography an academic institution? They might do SOME academic study, but learning to develop a photo ain't academic. Not in ANYONE'S fantasies. You have confused technical and academic studies.

academic (k-dmk)
adj.
Of, relating to, or characteristic of a school, especially one of higher learning.
Do me a favor, DU; When posting responses, have a clue what the hell you're talking about. You may not "think so", but Mr. Webster seems to agree with me. You may have confused yourself with someone who matters.
--------------------------------
Obviously, the administrators have no understanding about how complex a subject BJ is, as would be poker, although BJ is much more grounded in math.
----------------
Obviously you have just escpaped from the local nuthouse. We don't want to find you an Academy - for you we have to start looking for a Remedy! Please keep your leg pulling to your third leg, (some metaphysics from John Donne there)
=======================================
Ok, i gotta admit, you got me here; I have NO friggin' idea what you're talking about here. Lay off the Foster's for awhile. If you're trying to intimate that BJ and poker are not complex, well, I'm not sure why you even bother posting. Come to think of it, why do you bother posting? You rarely have anything worthwhile, constructive, or even halfway interesting to say. The dingos ate your baby.
----------------------------------------
But, if you are genuine I am sory if I appear too harsh. If you are simply flexing the muscles of your ingenuity, well...come on down!
========================
Oh, I'm genuine, no need to apologize; I can handle anything you throw. Flexing? Well, compared to a 98-pound weakling such as yourself, I'm Schwarzenegger. Paying Bob Barker a visit at your behest is my pleasure.
Otherwise, your post does have some merit. Lotsa students outsmart themselves.
You said, "Academic means anything related to school/academy." Anything? Anything? Not even Webster has "anything". LOL!
I repeat: is a photography school an academic institution? If you don't reply we will never know. Know, that is, how many brain cells U have lost while trying to understand the dictionary. We will just have to accept that you cannot cut the mustard in an argument. Over to U...
That's all you've got? Disappointing... Not that I expected much, but jeez...
Yes, Kangaroo Boy, photography IS an academic suject. Maybe your resentment towards photography is the fact that you are not exceptionally photogenic yourself. Either way, your lackluster response shows that you cannot "cut the mustard" Webster's on my side here. Reread the dictionary entry; if it still doesn't make sense, wander over to your local grade school playground and have one of the kids explain it to you.

Is that what you did? And got yourself arrested? And now serving 5-10. And logging on to bj21 from the educational centre's computer? From where you can post your pathetic opinions which anyone can see are no cover for your polishing with saliva the boots of the PRINCE of NONSENSE (who moonlights as a member of the parole board)without fear of retaliation EXCEPT FOR THOSE WITH files, hacksaws and boltcutters, flame thro.....blah blah...

Yes, Kangaroo Boy,

I am honoured! To think you put me in the same class as Wayne Carey! My favourite football player!

True. You should see the look on my face when I am pissed off at people like U.

It is all academic to me...

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I know this is seven years later but I figure it is better to respond late than never. I took everyones advice (except those who told me not to teach the class), spoke with the appropriate people, made the appropriate arguments, pulled the appropriate strings and taught the class for two semesters.
The first semester was unsuccessful. Students looking for an easy class, showed up, goofed off and never even learned basic strategy.
The second semester was very successful. I made basic strategy a requirement to get in the course. I gave students one week to study and they had to answer 40 basic strategy questions in 1 minute. This helped me weed out those who were not serious. I encouraged no one to go out and play until they were 21, knew what they were doing, and had it down cold. Of course not everyone listened. One student kept telling stories and horror regarding playing No Bust 21 at the Oaks Card Room. I reprimanded him every day. I wanted to kill him.
There were, however, success stories. At least one of my students had a small degree of success counting recreationally. Two of my students, though, went on to become successful poker players. Back then we were all just starting with 2/4 hold em in my Oakland apartment, waking up my roommates because we believed every bad beat was something worth screaming about. From that home game David Daneshgar went on to become one of Cardplayers top ten about a year or two ago. Jonas Flug-Entin is also a very successful cash game player in Los Angeles. They were both my students that semester.
As far as I know the class is still being taught today. It was, at least, last time I checked, which was a year or two ago. I think it merged with a poker class that one of my students taught the semester after he took my class. I tried professional gambling of all sorts for a few years and had some moderate successes. However, I just recently started law school. I know gambler turned lawyer is clich but, hey, it is what it is.
Best of luck to you all,
Zachary Belinsky
PS I went to Las Vegas recently and saw nothing but 6 to 5. Is there anywhere left this game can be beat.

Conditions have deteriorated in Las Vegas and most other venues, but the 6 to 5 crap makes up only about 20% of the tables in Las Vegas. There are still decent games out there, but they are getting harder to find.
