It used to be that you bought cheap seats and then tipped the maitre-d to get up front seats. Does that trick still work?

Most venues nowadays have assigned seating.

They get tickets for free from the shows who don't want to be embarrassed by empty seats

Which means you can forget about getting Celine tickets here

That said there is a tremendous inefficiency in ticket pricing if you do your homework, you need to be really careful about fake tickets though by third party sites

Thanks Belairgold. We are back now. I did OK on Tickets. Went to see Penn and Teller. It was fine but I had seen some of his stuff on his TV show. We usually see Mac King in the afternoon and in the past that was free tickets with a 2 drink minimum. No longer. Have to pay real money.

Stayed at the Paris. Seems like LV is much deteriorated now. Food used to be almost free. Comps not that difficult. Coupons available. Now food is not that good and overpriced. I guess it has been going downhill for sometime.

Played a little hold em. Are you still playing poker? How is that going for you.

I did find a 9/6 JB with decent cocktail service for my morning Baileys and coffee. Checked in at Casino Royale for the standard funbook and triple cash back Video Poker. That is long gone.

It must have been many years since you were in Vegas because these conditions have deteriorated for a long time. I think the last decade has been the worst. The consolidation in the industry has meant less choice and less competition. Assigned seats for tickets has been around now for over 20 years in the major rooms. That is not necessarily a bad thing. I liked assigned seating. If you want better tickets, pay the show more, rather than bribe an employee who is using his position to enrich himself. It is the same reason the hotels are now aggressive in selling upgraded rooms which used to be reserved for gamblers. Because rather than have the check in clerk get the money, they can get the money.

Now that you mentioned Penn and Teller, I should have mentioned this - f you have a Caesars Total Reward Card (which is also the old Harrah's corp) you can get free tickets for Penn and Teller, Mac King and some others less prominent shows if you have Diamond Status. Buy one get one free (BOGO) if status is Platinum. You can do this once a month

Yes work got in the way and it's been a long time since Vegas and longer since I stayed on the strip. The last time I stayed it was at the Golden Nugget. I have not been a regular visitor since about the time the Stardust got torn down. I think my last Greenchip was the one Mathprof spoke at. I don't know what year that was.

I found an easy route to Platinum. Just take the credit card. I think if you put $750 of purchases on it in a few months one gets a $100 of credit. The hotel cost doesn't count towards that. But everything you buy does count towards reward points. The major advantage of Platinum is it gets you free parking and it is supposed to get you a line pass. I was amazed that they charge parking now. Instead of renting a car I just used Lyft. Resort fees are higher. Crazy.

I wonder what Shreveport will be like when I return. Used to get a decent poker room rate and there was never parking charges.

BTW, I thought the poker players better than I remember. Maybe they have had time to practice.
