Actually beat a 6:5 game

Well, I went down to AC a few weeks ago with some friends. I'm not the most advanced counter, and swore off actually counting and playing until I got both the bankroll and the skills. However, I decided, because it was cheaper, and because all the other tables were full (Weekend Night) to sit down at a 6:5 game. Now I know the odds, and did fairly well for about 5 shuffles, being down only $30. Then, on the 6th deck, it came. It was right before the dealers cut card and I had a positive 6 TC. In other words, somewhere between a 9 and 12 RC (2/3 to 1/2 deck left). I decided to risk it, and put down $40 on the hand (the rest of what I had in front of me). I pulled an 11, the dealer pulled a 5. I doubled down, dealer busted, and won $80 on one hand. Not to bad. After that, I realized it was time to walk away, and not let the house advantage of 3% slowly take back my money. Though you guys may be interested. Oh, and in AC there is no mid-shoe entry. Not sure if this is universal in single deck, but it is in 6:5 AC style. So basically, unless you get extremelly lucky, this game still sucks.

Respectfully, you are not a counter. At a 9RC your TC was at a minimum twice what you thought. Chances are that is why your double down paid.

At a 12RC and 1/2 deck left, they were ALL tens and aces .. but two. Doubtful.

The best thing you did was pocket that money and leave.

You got lucky; learn to count; and generally stay away from 6:5.

Actually it does mean that anything can happen in such a limited period of time.

RC=12. 1/2 deck remaining. TC=24. Which is all but 2 of the 26 cards being 10/A.

There are only 16 ten cards and 4 aces. Therefore there can't be 24 10/A cards.

The old "partial deck true count estimation" problem... :)

You are obviously correct. Truing up the count leads to some preposterous numbers at times. Wasn't thinking about that at all.

(obvious idea is that when you compute the true count, you are saying there are 24 10's left in a _whole_ deck, if a whole deck were left. But there isn't)

It seems like people are mixing up TC and RC. 16x(Ts and As) + 4x(2s, 3s, 4, 5 and 6s) + 6x(7s, 8s and 9s) = 26 cards. RC = +12. TC = +24. We don't start getting (virtually) impossible TCs 'till north of +40. +53 is literally impossible.

I'd say this is why casinos still offer this garbage, because people still play it. If your urge to play is *so* strong that you'll sit down at a crappy game, yanno..... that's bad.

that an AP would know better. But in playing BJ around the country, and seeing some really bad games (6:5, even payoffs, terrible penetration, etc) and asking people "why on earth are you playing that terrible game?" the answer is always the same. "It is the only game at the bet level I want, that is close enough that I can play when I want." In short, they "must" play, and they will play any game that is available, no matter how bad, to satisfy that playing impulse.

Normally I wouldn't care, but it is such a prevalent attitude, that the casinos are getting away with offering poorer and poorer games, because there are some that just have to play no matter how poor the rules are. If there are enough of them to keep the tables busy, the casinos are quite happy to take their bigger edge to the bank...

It's enough to make you want to throw up. Right on the table in fact. :)
