Here's a story that happened a few years back I thought I'd share with you all. I'd like to hear some comments and what you would have done in this situation.
I'm playing a craps game on the Vegas strip using some matchplay coupons. I lose my bet and leave the table upset forgetting I have about $50 in red chips in the rail. When I get outside I remember the chips and go back in to get them. I go to the empty spot and the chips are gone. I loudly say I had chips here and ask the guy next to me if he saw the chips or knows what happpened to them. He looks at me and shakes his head, then I ask the dealer, he too shakes his head. I find a floorlady in the pit and she calls the eye. I'm standing around waiting away from the craps table like 30 minutes. I ask the floor lady what's going on and she says it looks like the guy playing next to me took them when I left and he's still playing with security guards watching him from a distance. I wait some more then the shift boss comes over and tells me to wait here and he will go talk to the guy. He goes over and talks to the guy, then comes over and tells me the guy has something to say to me. We walk back over to the guy at the table and he hands me the chips back and says he thought they were his dads. I said no you tried to steal these, I came back to get them and you said you didn't know what happened to them. His dad wasn't there, he made that up and knew he was stealing my chips. I told the boss I want them to charge him. I don't play blackjack here so I don't care if I make a deal out of this and am remembered. The shift boss and some security guards took us both to two back rooms next to each other. they are talking to they guy for a few minutes then come talk to me and say since he gave me the chips back there's no crime the can't charge him with anything. Really? So if a player steals chips from the dealer rack, then gives them back when they catch him there's no crime? They tell me they can call the cops but it will take time for them to show up, I have to wait there, and they have more serious things they are busy with. They say since I live out of town I'll probably have to fly back out here for a court case. I think they would be handing it different if the guy stole from them. I left and am not sure if they 86ed the guy or not but they were still talking to him as I was leaving and the shift boss told me they were letting him go. You guys ever had anything like this happen and what would you have done in this spot? What do you think should have happened?
