I have posted criticisms of El Burro's post claiming he only played $1000 SCORE blackjack games couching the criticism in terms he said he was claiming he could play such games at will. It was pointed out on Green Chip the original El Burro post had no claims as to frequency and, after rereading it, it had no claims to frequency. Other El Burro posts of the time led me to presume he was about a daily player at the time and I couched my original post in terms of daily play. When this possible error was not pointed out and not pointed out in posts when the issue was raised on this board, my presumption remained unchanged. A statement which says hole carding can provide such an edge is an accurate statement as I have repeated below. It was further pointed out on Green Chip that if a player can find two hours a week of hole card play, a $10,000 bankroll could net $100,000 which is not shabby. I do not find it incredible a skilled observer looking for that opportunity might not find it and if that was what was meant to be conveyed and misunderstood by me, I apologise to El Burro.
In a reply to the person posting as John May, I stated I do not see what this conflict which has arisen between "Alternate" and "Counting" factions is about. Different strokes for different folks. I attempted to point out the same thing to the person posting as J. Morgan but his response was, to say the least, rude.
Which leads to these observations: So called "alternative" ways of play tend to be coups, finding a game which can be hole carded, finding a game like May did and reported in BJF, finding a readable shuffle, etc. Finding coups should certainly not be denigrated. It is my opinion we should all respect such originality and skill in extracting money from casinos. But I will also add finding coups is peculiarly suitable for professionals and not amateurs like me who make about as much in my day job as most professional gamblers and like my home and friends better than a hotel and walking the streets. If I had that skill, I would not spend a week in LV looking for hole card games I might not even find. So counting with its opportunities of extended play and better than break even odds is a reasonable decision for me. I do not see why the New Wave criticises that decision with such great emotion and vilification and with such built in feelings of superiority.
And neither should counters denegrate the professional coup seekers. I never meant to be considered a counter who denigrated that approach. I want to make clear I was not denigrating that approach even if I misunderstood the context of El Burro's post. There are false claims and false boasts on the internet and there are, IMHO, instances when members of both sides, if sides are to be taken, appear to be puffing to some extent. When that occurs it seems to me both sides should endeaver to point such things out.
