21+3

Does anyone know the odds of hitting a flush, straight, 3 of a kind, straight flush? I'm sure it's a suckers bet-just want to know how bad. The particular game that I saw pays 5to1, 10to1, 20to1,30to1.

Thx intermediate but either I don't know how to read that chart or it doesn't answer the question. I've seen the chart before. I just don't see where the answer to the question is. What's the odds of hitting a flush, straight etc?

Straight probability listed is .031021.
One divided by .031021 indicates you should expect a straight once every 32.24 hands. Given a payback of 9-1, the expected return is .279192. Or for every $1 bet, expect a return of 27.9 cents if betting every hand.

Thx hiho. Can you tell me how to figure the expected return given a payback of 20 to 1 or 30 to 1?

If I multiply the probability (.031021) X the payout (9 to 1)
I come up with .031021 X 9 = .279189 The payout is 27.9 cents for every dollar bet. I'm just not sure why I'm getting .279189 instead of the .279192 listed in the return column on WOO.I know this is getting kinda technical,knit picky I'm just curious.

Most of the value in 21+3 is in the Flush...they shorted the hell out of the flush to boost the other payoffs and I don't think it was to be magnanimous. The variance is also now off the charts compared to just a straight 9:1 payoff for everything (which was already off the charts).

If the game you mention is 6 decks, then you can use the Wizard's chart. The most direct way to come up with the house edge is to multiply the TOTAL return for each of the four winning hands, and add them all together.

FLUSH or FLUSH + PAIR occurs .0584 x 6 total units returned = .3505
STRAIGHT (no flush) occurs .0310 x 11 total units returned = .3423
TRIPS occur .0052 x 21 total units returned = .1102
STRAIGHT/FLUSH occurs .0021 x 31 total units returned = .0651

Adding all returns together = .8681, leaving a house edge of .1319, or 13.2%.
That's if I didn't make any mistakes in this quick once over.

Using the table that Intermediate provided a link to at Wizard of Odds for the persentage of hands, I get the following.

Flush + Pair 0.047221
Flush 0.011202
Total Flush 0.058423 X 5 = 0.292115
Straight 0.031021 X 10 = 0.31021
Three of a Kind 0.005248 X 20 = 0.10496
Straight Flosh 0.002068 X 30 = 0.06204
TOTAL 0.769325

For every dollar bet you would see a return of about $ 0.77 for a house edge of 23% if I'm doing the math right.

You need to add in the player's original wager, which also gets returned with each winning bet. So the actual gross payoffs are 6-for-1, 11-for-1, 21-for-1 and 31-for-1. That gives you the total percentage returned on 100% wagered

The wizard adds only the net odds payoffs (5-to-1, etc.), but then subtracts that total from the percentage of losing wagers. Same net answer -- longer method.
