How to Ruin a Good Game...
Inquiry,
I realize now that you're a brand-new member of our fraternity: welcome to the wonderful world of card counting!
Ian Andersen's advice is geared to high-stakes players, so until you're betting purple chips, don't follow his suggestions.
To illustrate what I mean, I ran six sims of the game we've been discussing: DD, H17, DA2, DAS, RSA, 75% pen, for a card counter using KO-Preferred (that means using the FULL index table). In all the sims the player used this same bet schedule:
RC Bet
<2 $25
+2 $50
+3 $75
+4 $100
+5 $125
+6 $150
+7 $175
>7 $200
.
As indicated elsewhere in this thread, this is a very good game, with a SCORE around 80.
I ran sims for three different Betting Cover strategies:
1. No Cover at all: thus, bet strictly with the count
2. No Increase after Loss: this is what you said you use
3. All Cover: No Increase after Loss, No Decrease after Win, No Bet Change after Push, No Large Increase, and No Large Decrease
as well as for two different numbers of players:
1. 3 total players
2. heads up
By the way, "Large" means more than one spot on the bet schedule. Thus, if on one hand you bet $75, and the next round calls for a $150 bet, you instead bet just $100.
Here are the SCOREs for these six scenarios:
3 play 1 play Bet Cover
80.23 82.63 No Cover
43.54 57.29 No Inc after Loss
4.48 11.55 All Cover
.
As you can see, with No Cover the SCORE is not affected too much by having more players. However, as we add more cover, the SCORE drops precipitously, especially when we aren't playing heads up.
In particular, notice that with 3 total players just the "No Increase" cover cuts the SCORE by nearly half! That's simply too much EV to surrender for a green-chipper.
Hope this helps!
